[Archive] Do you like Black Orcs?

brimmstorm:

So my game store still has the box of 20 Black Orcs that were released a few months ago and I was thinking of picking them up for my CD.

But do people ever use them? I was thinking they could be pretty good with all the weapon options that they come with. The seem like they could be rock hard or really killy. Have people used them with the CDs at all?

Thanks,

-brimmstorm

Arashi:

I normally use them, for fluff wise reasons. But you could probably use a unit of big’uns for a similar effect for a lower price. Nothing stops you from using the blorcs as biguns though.

Also, your opponent will probably shoot against your blorcs with everything he haves. Don’t know why, but people fear them to death.

brimmstorm:

You could always put a hobgoblin screen in from of them? That would save them from some shooting that way. I was thinking that they would be good since they have all the weapon options, are str, and t 4, and wear heavy armor. I think I’m going to pick up the box since I would like to start Orcs and Gobbos since I use some for my CDs.

Xander:

The models are ace, don’t forget. Even if you use them as regular orcs, they are awesome. Maybe don’t use the helmets in that case. Hehe. I will pick up some of these when I finish more core units.

hobblin:

Never have I used them but against me there killing machine’s in large units which is awsome.

Nehan:

I tend to try and field units of possibly similar points value (heroes, units, machines - all from 80 to 180 points), so black orcs aren’t the best option here, cause they cost A LOT (like 14p/model with shield). Still, I would field them in larger battles, like a fun tournament we have in september - 5k points a side, I’ll post my roster in just a moment!

Maybe I should test them in normal battles rather as a flanking unit - 12 BO with a musician is a nice idea! They get 12 A with S5 charging!

Dracomancer:

I don’t know how they are in a CD army, but they work well in an O&G army, its nice to have a unit that doesn’t squabble at a crucial turn…:~

And as said before, they are very nice models:).

brimmstorm:

Well I bought them and they are one of the best kits I have ever assembled from GW.

I am goingo to use them this coming week and see how they do and I’ll post here what I found.

WarplockMonkey:

I agree with brimstone, the kit is awsome, i only got the ten orc box but i would have got more if i had more money :~

Dissembler:

Black Orcs are awesome, but like arashi said, the oponent does tend to throw everything hes got at them, so be prepared to lose them. This can work out well though, because while hes concentrating on those 20 blorcs, he doesnt see those centaurs charging up his flank! Also, even though you should plan on them dying, blorcs are tough enough that there will still be enough of them do some damage when they finally do get into combat.

Uzkul Werit:

I did use them in a big block of twenty with the works. The only thing is despite being T4, they will die to literally anything. Mine were great at being killed by Reapeater Crossbows. Their profile isn’t too much better than a Chaos Dwarf Warrior so I dropped the Black Orcs and used more Chaos Dwarfs. The Black Orcs with two Choppas could be pretty good though.

t4 is great - think that big infantry units (ogres, kroxigors, minotaurs i.e.) have t4 too...

metro_gnome:

Blorcs suck… get Big 'Uns…

Thommy H:

My last opponent was so terrified of my black orcs (he’s a fairly inexperienced dwarf player who didn’t recognise my ancient models - despite being told multiple times that they were nothing scary) that he concentrated all the fire of his war engines on them for several turns until they were all dead. Kept my Chaos Dwarf units alive for a little while longer, not that it did much good since I was just marching into the teeth of a classic gunline.

Uzkul Werit:

I can get T4 on basic Chaos Dwarf Warriors and save a few points in the bargain. And a Special choice too.

metro_gnome:

yup… Blorcs are competeing directly with either our core infantry… or Big 'uns…

both of which will do the same job for cheaper… so you dont care so much when they die…

Blorcs used to be alright in 6th…

olde quell animosity was a godsend for the army…

the loss of magic banners and the infamous S7 Blorcs champ…

ranks them just above goblins as our second worst special choice…

Ishkur Cinderhat:

No matter how they fare in the game, the new miniatures are so cool I just HAD to have them. :hat

Hammerhand:

Just ordered some myself. I just love the models!

I think you nailed it. Not to mention the cool history tied to Chaos Dwarfs. ;)

Traitor King:

You’re forgetiing that in a large unit of 20, they’re one of our most killy combat units…
