[Archive] [19/07/10] Chaos Dwarf Combat Engineers

Baggronor:

The Earth Shaker and Immortal Standard Bearer are absolutely rocking  I may have to steal some of your ideas…I mean, be influenced :cheers

Border Reiver:

Agreeing with Baggranor - the Immortal Standard Bearer is nicer than many BSBs.

The Blunderbussier is wonderful, he looks like he’s shooting an M79 Grenade launcher.

Grimstonefire:

@Border Reiver.  I think that’s what I based it on, it’s one of the grenade launchers anyway.

A small update here.

I’ve been busy painting and mending more of the immortals, with any luck the first 10 should be finished by the end of next week (including the standard bearer).  I’ve yet to figure out how I will make a bull headed drum, let alone convert one of these guys to carry it.

Here is a shot of my GH entry pre painting.  The focusing isn’t great. :frowning:

You’ll notice the horns under the chin, these broke off during undercoating and I forgot to glue them back on.

I will do soon, and take better pics.

Notice also the axe.  I was very pleased with how this came out, it’s made from 3 parts; chaos knight arm (one of the lance ones I think), horn from the chaos knights and a dwarf axe from 6ed box (or it could have been a chaos knight one filed down).

The bottom of the axe lines up with the start of the teeth.

clam:

This was one of the most spectacular entries at GH. I really love this mechanical steampunk look. Awesome job, Grim :hat off

Any chance that you can give us some pictures with just the Lord-he is very hard to picture out behind those mechanical wings.

:cheers

PS:and please post the original entered pictures as well. Must have been hard for Xander merging you entry into a single picture. So many nice details.

Kera foehunter:

i think you did a great job grims !!well all your stuff is kick ass !!

Baggronor:

This would be my only criticism, the lord perhaps isn't as prominent as he should be. It is awesome though, love the mechanical wing joints, plus the base is cool too (didn't realise that was sculpted) :)

Hazkar:

nice model, the base is great sculpted, the axe is nice looking and the wings…i´ve seen the video, are they still moveable after painting?hope so

NOFX:

awesome stuff mate just a quick question how do you paint the red armour on your black orcs

Cheers kieran

Grimstonefire:

@Hazkar

Yes they are.

@NOFX

If I remember correctly, a watered down red gore, followed by straight red gore, then blazing orange and tiny dots of sunburst yellow.

Touch up the black afterwards, but I try and leave a little of the watered down red gore layer.

I probably could paint it a bit smoother with more layers.

NOFX:

cheers dude

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

tjub:

Did the taurus ever get painted?

Grimstonefire:

I really need to take some better pics, these are a lot darker than the model actually is, the wings look black when they’re metal. :~

dncswlf:

Wow! incredible! fantastic work, love the metallic feel of this creation!

Grimstonefire:

It would have been a damn sight easier if I’d had the plastic juggers they’re about to release… It’s almost like they waited.

I’m going to study the sprues and see if it’s possible to make them walk on 2 legs.

Grimstonefire
Of course they did Grim, it's GW after all remember! ;)

Grimstonefire:

I figure it’s time for a small update.

Since last time I have assembled/ painted 3 more hobgoblins (bringing my total to 5 :~)…  However, they are now part of my ‘counts as hobgoblins’ slave unit which is 30 models (including lots of skaven slaves, some converted zombies, a goblin and a dwarf), all of which are assembled and 15 painted.

I can add my Blunderbussers, which are on my microart studio bases.  I’m not entirely sure I like the painting on the bases, it’s perhaps a little colourful?  The edges of the bases are a bit rough as well, but I’m not really bothered about that.  In a movement tray nobody sees it anyway.  I have a real issue with bases now, as I have 3 different types in the army.

That brings my total to 9 assembled and 7 painted. :frowning:

Also, I’ll mention what I#m currently working on, which is something a bit exciting for me…

Long story short, I’ve been building a Kollossus since about 2006(?), but it was such a huge undertaking (I believe mine would have been the tallest on here), it’s still pretty much in the same state it was 3 years ago.

A few months ago, I started building a necron vehicle for a friend, and since he no longer wants it I will put it to use on my kollossus instead.

The original design is 4 legs, but because that was just going to take forever, I’ve decided to forget the legs, and just use the upper body, arm and the start of a head and stick it on the tank.

So what I will eventually make is a massive kollossus steam tank thing.  I’ve been doing some research into early steam traction engines, and trains as well.  So it’s more like a land train I guess.

Anyhow, rather than spoil the surprise, I thought I’d just show you the front wheel for now with a hellcannon wheel for size reference. :o

Bolg:

Grimstonefire
Well I must say that is by far the coolest Taurus i've ever seen!!!

Grimstonefire
Oh my.. I'm scared already! o.O

Then again, there is no reason why Chaos Dwarfs should not have a land train. Nor is there any reason why our land trains should not be bigger and meaner than those of our western cousins! :hat off

Baggronor:

Will it have carriages? Full of slaves? :)

Grimstonefire:

I think it could feasibly pull carriages actually, it is a real beast.

I’m also making the upper body part on magnets, so that I could completely swap out the robot part for a firing platform if I wanted to, or a gyro pad, or a mobile temple, etc.

There are 3 issues I have at the moment; firstly where to put a steam gun (it would be nice to have one), secondly where to put the crew access panel, and thirdly how to ensure it looks warhammerish. Which is proving tricky for a robotic steam tank.
