First, what size base is the Arachnarok base? Is it the same as Mortis Engine base? I need one for my destroyer and can get a Mortis Engine base. I might just make my own but need to know what size.
Second, what are everyone’s thoughts on these bases for Chaos Dwarfs?
Every army I own, I’ve always went with a neutral flocked base (sand, dirt, grass, rocks, etc). I figured most battles will take place away from home (especially true for Chaos based armies since they’re always doing the invading), but I’m thinking these lava based bases will really look cool with my new Forgeworld army. Thoughts? Stay with something neutral or go with something more akin to what you’d expect near the Dark Lands?
Spider base is 100mm X 150mm base and you can get them on ebay.
Best place for bases is Base X of War. I have ordered from them numerous times. They make resin bases in all sizes (yes even 100mmX150mm) and they have movement trays of all sizes as well.
Alternatively, for something of this size, you can just buy yourself the sizable GW movement trays and make yourself a base of the appropriate size. Its less fancy than a resin base, but its cheaper and you’ll have plenty of of material left to make other movement trays.
These are very nice bases. I saw some video of someone using black foam and white glue to try to achieve the volcanic landscape effect, but this is much easier! I’ll have to check out some of those other bases too, while I’m at it.

I just received an order from Base X of War today and must say I'm impressed. I picked up some 40x40 swamp bases (for Fimir) and a 60x100 desert kings base (for Drazhoath)
Arrived really quickly and seem to be very nicely cast. Would recommend.
Yes they ship super fast and I have never had a single problem with any of the bases. That means no air bubbles, no miscasts etc. I’ve order well over 200 bases from them. *And no I don’t work for them.

Thanks, they have nice bases too. Do you guys think the lava landscape bases would look good though or do other landscape bases end up looking better? I haven't seen anyone actually use the lava landscape yet.
Just got that fallen Giant from the celtic line and think i will use them for hobgobs. Am still thinking of using the Thunder mountain ones for the Dwarfs, with only a hint of Lava between the stones. The Lava bases seem too irregular to place Infernal Guard on them.
And it would give me the option to use 25mm bases for them (I never play tournaments). Perhaps i will even try to mix the bases.
@tvandyke: wow, so you got a new CD army? is your plan to have it all ready for saws and then QCR? you are not gonna get rid of your big hats are you?
Da Crusha
I've had those big hats since they were first released in 4th edition and bought a bunch more hobgoblins after RH when the cost per troop went down. So, I'll probably never get rid of them, but I love the new Forgeworld models and want to build a new army around them. It gives me the chance to change color schemes a bit, not to mention that my painting skills have improved a bunch as well. I just can't believe how much I'm spending though. I've never spent this much on an army. I think I'm up around $1300 and that's just insane when you think about it. Of course, I guess it's not that much when you compare that to a new set of skiis or golf clubs. Hobbies are expensive. My only saving grace is that my wife's hobby is photography and I think she spends more than I do. My goal is to have the majority done by SAWS or at the very least by the QCR.

I ended up going with this idea (someone else recommended the exact same thing). Got the Thunder Mountain bases. I'll paint them dark grey/black with a hint of lava seeping between the cracks. The magma bases would have had the infernal guard literally standing in lava in some cases. It would have looked goofy. The Thunder Mountain bases will allow the troops (Bull Centaurs and Hobgoblins as well) to look as though they're walking over a mountain landscape with lava under the surface and seeping through the cracks. I've already spent the money on them so I'm hoping it looks as good as what's in my mind.
I took a long hard look at those as well and I agree, they're awesome looking. My problem with them and the "Fire and Brimstone" bases from Forgecraft is that it looks like it would be hard to fit Infantry on those bases without some of their feet being on the lava part which even chaos dwarves would have a problem with I think. I think they'd work really well with K'Daii.
