[Archive] 2000 Posts and 100 Users!

Xander:

In just under a month, we have passed 2000 posts as a forum and have 100 registered members! :0

Chaos Dwarfs Online is going strong! A month ago the idea of having a newer forum was barely a thought in my head, but now thanks to all the members of this forum, we have something new and exciting on our hands! The Wiki is progressing nicely, the sections are filling out with excellent content, great discussion is taking place about new unit types and rules, the list goes on! Thanks to all of you, we are venturing ever closer to a more legitimized army!

In the future you can expect a full blown website for CDO, the purpose of which will be to showcase complete armies, excellent army lists, and in depth guides for conversions. This will allow for observers to look in to what we are doing as a community without having to sign up for any forums. All content will be in a readable format designed to cator to Warhammer fans who don’t necessarily know anything about Chaos Dwarfs. In essence, we want to expose every Warhammer player to our cause!

When I first started this forum, I wanted to buy a domain name for it, so it would be more accessible, approachable and more easily found by search engines. Although the final say will no doubt be mine (hey, I will be the one paying for it! :stuck_out_tongue: ), I desire your input on a domain name. I really want one that uses the words Chaos Dwarf in it. I don’t want to make the name any longer than it has to be, shorter is always better, and easy to spell domains are always best.

Here are some ideas for domain names that my Staff and I have discussed:

www.chaos-dwarfs.com

www.chaosdwarfs.org

www.dawizharr.com (I like this, though it is awkward to spell, and not Google friendly)

Your input would be appreciated! Thanks for helping make Chaos Dwarfs Online something special! The sky is the limit for us! :hat off

Cheers,

-Xander :cheers

It has been very busy alright, it’s surprising that we only have 100 members with the amount of topics flying about.

I like the dawizharr domain name but I do understand the issues with spelling and google; I don’t think many people would stumble upon this forum as I did at THOH.

gORCUS:

I like dawizharr.com, but how many people who know little to nothing about chaos dwarves have ever heard that term? I think one of the chaos dwarf ones would be better.

Hashut’s Blessing:

Same as the above two. Mr. Xander? Would it be an idea to poll this? (Not shaft it, he he he, but put a poll here…)

Ellimist:

I personally love the dawi zharr username, but for practicality, use one of the others.

Lord Zarkov:

Like the others I prefer the dawi zharr one, but realistically one of the Chaos Dwarf ones would be better; although it might be treading on HOH a bit too much

Lord Zarkov
HoH does not own the rights to be the only one with "Chaos Dwarf" in their domain! :P But be that as it may, that's why I kind of like .org, better than the .com, a bit more distinguishable.

Also, it would be possible to buy www.dawizharr.com as well, and have it redirect to www.chaosdwarfs.org, but that depends if someone want to shell out the cash. Domains are about 10 bucks US a year.

The Flying Beaver:

Good job guys, because of you this forum’s been growing faster than I had imagined. Let’s keep it up! Tell your friends!

Anyway, I like the www.chaosdwarfs.com one. People go for .com websites before .org ones.

And don’t forget the Golden Hat people! If you have’t started your entry, do so soon!

Xander:

www.chaosdwarfs.com is taken by someone, even though no site exists.

www.chaos-dwarfs.com is not taken however.

Uzkul Werit:

HoH toke the former name. How about www.hashut.com?

Xander:

Actually, HoH uses www.chaosdwarf.com, no “s”.

Master Vampire:

These guys are seriously worth a try. “www.chaosdwarfs.co.nr” certainly sounds cool to me + it’s free! You’ll only have to show a little banner on the page it redirect too. (it’s like 75x50 or so)

Domain names are kinda expensive. I think the need for one is just throwing money over the table. It’s not a good idea.

Btw, signature links to here with a good slogan/question or a banner OWN Google/Yahoo/whatever all together !

Cheers,

-MV

Master Vampire
I am really not interested in banners of any kind.

Master Vampire
Web Space is what is expensive. Domain names are cheap. They cost less than 1 dollar per month. A small price for increased Google hits.

Master Vampire
I think I know what you mean... but a Domain is even better.

Good thought, but I think a Domain name is best. Heck, I am paying for it anyway! :P

Monty:

:cheers 100 users seems like many more!

The sites coming along well… The painting and modeling sections are first class… But we are lacking the tactical discussion that a greater member base will generate.

Look foward to future growth (stupid commerce degree sneaking into my hobby time :P) and for the record I like all of those domain names.

Cheers, Mont

Have you put up meta-tags? If so, then I highly recommend putting them off. It seems that when you put in wrong keywords on there, you are being put on a blacklist, which screws the link basically.

Additionally, a small domain changes nothing to being ranked higher on Google. It only provides a fast way to remember the forum's address. It's basically a favorite's link which you pay for.

Also, Google ranks your forum depending on how many links you have put across the internet. It's important that you put them up on other important sites/fora, you'll get a stronger 'vote'. Every link's a vote, and the more votes, the higher you get.

That's the deal. You only pay for a domain to satisfy people who don't know how to use the Favorites tool and/or want to remember the address.

You ain't getting much more hits by it, except if you link to other sites after the purchase and then get ranked higher on Google.

Hashut’s Blessing:

Out of curiosity, have you bought it yet, Mr. Xander? If not, by the sounds of the above, it may be wise to not bother… Saves you $10 a year at least!

someone2040:

It’s still a nice idea to have a decent Domain name.

Recently the The Pyramid Vault (A Lizardmen fourm I regular) purchased web space and a domain name. And it honestly feels a lot better to be known as “www.PyramidVault.com” or something like that rather than “www.brinkster.com/members/tpv” (Probably not right address) or “http://invisionfree.com/forums/Thee_Forsaken_One/index.php?act=idx”.

Having a domain name makes a pretty big difference, and it makes the site look more professional rather than amateurish.

My personally preference is www.dawizharr.com, especially considering what Vampire Master has mentioned about using meta tags properly.

The Flying Beaver:

I agree with someone2040. Go with dawizharr.com and begin the spammi- err, advertising; it’s a win-win situation for us.

Xander:

Master-Vampire’s logic is correct, but missing a key point.

Yes, he is accurate for Google ranking, but he has not taken into account the human factor. People are more likely to click on a Website that comes up in google if the domain name matches what they are searching for. If you search for Chaos Dwarfs in google, are you more apt to click on www.chaos-dwarfs.com or www.dawizharr.com or http://chaos-dwarfs.xandor.ca?

I think the answer is obvious. :stuck_out_tongue:

That's my point. You can get professional looking adress for free. That's what I wanted to make clear mainly.

You can have "www.chaosdwarfs.co.nr" or "www.dawizharr.co.nr" just for showing a little banner.

My own forum would be the best example: www.vampirecounts.co.nr

I don't find the banner on the bottom disturbing. Although it doesn't really fit the skin, it's still out of sight for anyone to bother really. And it's legal.

Cheers,
