[Archive] 2500 Dwarf/O&G Allies

metro_gnome:

Gentlemen…

So… the advent of the new Dwarf FAQ has rendered my 7th ed CD army unplayable at 2K…
mainly due to the expulsion of DoW from the already small list…
I’ve used my BCs as DoW heavy cav since the demise of RH…
it was an anvil/machine gunline with suprise cav for kicks… in the face…

So I am now making a foray into the use of the allies rules to try to represent CDs…
While I’m not sold on it entirely… I believe the most logical choice is Dwarfs/O&G…
however Dwarfs/BoC is also a possibility… I just happen to have some orc models lying around and no beasts…

So i’m thinking:

Runelord: Balance, Stone, Shield (Astragoth)
Thane: BSB, Gromril, Cleaving (conversion, like to keep it)
Black Orc Big Boss: Chariot, Heavy Armor

19 Dwarfs: FC, GW
19 Long Beards: FC, Shields
25 Orc Boyz: FC, 2nd HW
30 Night Goblins: FC, Netterz
10 Thunderers: Shields
10 Thunderers: Shields
5 Wolf boyz: Musician, Spears
5 Wolf boyz: Musician, Spears

1 Cannon: Forging (Death Rocket)
1 Grudegbearer: Accuracy, Penetrating (Earthshaker)
5 Boar Boyz: FC
5 Boar Boyz: FC (these are sadly what my BCs have been reduced to)
7 Squighopperz
2 Spear Chukkas

This is roughly 2500 point…
and its also the extent of my models… tho I have a troll and some arrer boyz also…
And I sure don’t want to buy anymore big hatz… which is ok cause I also want to chop this down to 2K…

but I am worried that I am thinking too 7th ed… in terms of unit sizes…
and I also worry if this is enough magic defense… given my +2 to dispel attempts…

anyway thoughts are appreciated on 8th ed strategy…
as well as on the allied concept itself…

cheers,
metro

Shakhorth:

Personally I’d make your units somewhat bigger. Since having more ranks then your enemy makes you stubborn. This will play out very well with the Dwarfs who have a high ld of their own. And with any greenskin units if you keep your general within the 12inch command range.

metro_gnome:

interesting… then how big should they be?
would 35 work? big Cav units too?

Lets see what I can do:

Runelord: Balance, Stone
Thane: BSB, Gromril, Cleaving
Black Orc Big Boss: Chariot, Heavy Armor

34 Dwarfs Warriors: FC, GW
24 Thunderers: FC, Shields
35 Orc Boyz: FC, 2nd HW
30 Night Goblins: FC, Netterz
5 Wolf boyz: Musician, Spears
5 Wolf boyz: Musician, Spears

1 Cannon: Forging
1 Grudegbearer: Accuracy, Penetrating
10 Boar Boyz: FC
7 Squighopperz
2 Spear Chukkas

still 2500 (well 2499)… some zogging 'uge blocks…
funny that my night goblins are now one of the smallest blocks…
and no I won’t be buying anymore of them… Should they be stikkas?
while this boar boy unit is nasty… it also has a nasty price tag…
but so do most things in this list I suppose…

metro_gnome:

hmmm… you’ll find more cheer in a graveyard…

well I’ve worked out a 2K now… by favoring the dwarf component 1250/750:

Runelord: Balance

Thane: BSB, Gromril

(Hob)goblin Shaman: Sneaky Stealin’, Chariot w/ extra crew and wolf

35 Dwarf Warriors: FC, GW

20 Thunderers: FC, Shields

35 Orc Boyz: FC

7 Wolfboyz: Musician

Cannon: Forging

Grudgebearer: Accuracy, Penetrating

8 Boar Boyz: FC

2 Spear Chukkas

So I dropped out the Night goblin element… as well as the Blorc chariot…

but i think the hobgoblin chariot is a little fluffier… and will help my magic defense a lot…

it will require some converting… but I can take use wolf boyz and I can use the boars in my Space Orks army maybe…

I’m thinking the blocks will be 7 wide for everyone… except the BCs (boar boyz) who will run 8 across…

Makes it hard to maneuver… but everyone will have this problem I suppose…

Xander:

Long time, no see! Welcome back.

Not a bad way to make a list using official units. I’ve been wondering about the new rules, and they really seem to shake things up, especially with unit sizes that used to be used as flankers. You now need 2 ranks of 5 in a unit in order to negate ranks. Of course, decent cavalry still can strike flanks with only one rank striking back at them.

Unit sizes are completely throwing me off right now, so I am not sure I can be of much help!

Neil:

(Hob)goblin Shaman: Sneaky Stealin', Chariot w/ extra crew and wolf

metro_gnome
I'm not exactly sure on the rule you use to play this list, but that Shaman will stop you getting the dwarfs additional dispell bonus, so if you were planning on this you might need to re-think. If you weren't just ignore me...

metro_gnome:

hmmm… well spotted…
that’s what happens when you try remember details before you buy the book…

So lets go back to a BOBB… also gonna go back up to 2.5K…
as by all reports that will be the new “black”… as far as points are concerned…

Runelord: Balance, Stone
Thane: BSB, Gromril
Black Orc Big Boss: Heavy Armor, Shield

34 Dwarf Warriors: FC, GW (Thane)
23 Thunderers: FC, Shields (Runelord)
34 Orc Boy Big ‘Uns: FC, Mork’s Spirit Totem, Shields, (BOBB )
30 Night Goblin: Stikkas, Netterz, 3 Fanatics
10 Wolfboyz: Musician

1 Cannon: Forging
1 Grudge Thrower: Accuracy, Penetrating
8 Boar Boyz: FC
1 Orc Boar Chariot
2 Spearchukkas

162 Models
2500 (1300 Dwarf / 1200 O&G)

nabbin’ a little extra magic defense from Mork’s Totem to make up for the loss of shaman and sneaky staff…
@ +6 DD and -1 for my opponent… and +2 to dispel… I should be able to shut down most stuff…
Shooty blocks 6 wide, Hitty blocks 7 wide… Boar boyz 8 wide (i guess)…
Not sure if I want the BOBB in a chariot or not… but killin power wif my boyz seems proppa…
