[Archive] 2500 Points- No Destroyer, C&C Welcome!

RiTides:

Here is my first go at a real list, I would love feedback as I plan to build exactly what I would need to get playing first.

Sorcerer-Prophet, General, Level 4 with Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield - 375 (LORE OF METAL)

Infernal Castellean, BSB with Opal Amulet, Enchanted Shield - 150

Bull Centaur Taur’ruk with Shield, Sword of Might - 180

5 Bull Centaurs Renders with great weapons, full command, gleaming pennant - 280

28 Infernal Guard with great weapons, full command, banner of swiftness - 467

50 Hobgoblins Cutthroats with shields, musician, standard - 237

Iron Daemon - 285

Deathshrieker Rocket - 100

Hellcannon - 210

Dreadquake Mortar with Slave Ogre - 215

Total - 2499

The character loadouts may need work, but I’m trying to see how I can make lore of metal work. If I get the scaly skin spell, the hobgoblins could become a big pain for someone to work through, and help the great weapon block live.

My main consideration now is whether I should swap out the level 4 for two lower level wizards and some chaff (wolf raiders). But with the high casting cost of lore of metal, I’m concerned about making that work with two lower level wizards. I also bump right up against 625 for my hero allowance going that route.

Thoughts / ideas?

Samanos:

-more bulls. the way you are now your taururk does not get a LoS save. hes one cannonball away…
- He also needs better equipment.

I would say give 2 small wizards a go one for metal and one death.

RiTides:

Okay, to get points to equip the characters more, I can drop the core of the army closer to minimum (625) and possibly drop the bull centaur champion so the Taur’ruk can get a LOS roll.

I’m still working out the options here but that will give me something like 85 - 95 points to play with. Enough to get the BSB mask of the furnace, and the Taur’ruk the dawnstone, for example. Or I could keep the BSB more barebones and add a hobgoblin khan on giant wolf… any thoughts on which would be better?

Also, in a list with the units shown in the OP, would people prefer blunderbusses on the infernal guard? I’m torn between those and great weapons. Blunderbusses allow them to use their shields in combat, and if I get the scaly skin spell off they’d have a 1+ save, and would be stubborn due to the Infernal Castellan even without many ranks.

RiTides:

Here is my second attempt. Main changes: put blunderbusses on the infernal guard, chopped the hobgobs down to 30, and added a lot of gear to the Taur’Ruk and a little bit to the BSB.

Sorcerer-Prophet, General, Level 4 with Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield - 375 (LORE OF METAL)

Infernal Castellean, BSB with Dawnstone, Enchanted Shield - 160

Bull Centaur Taur’ruk with Great Weapon, Blackshard Armor, Crown of Command, Dragonhelm, Luckstone - 235

5 Bull Centaurs Renders with great weapons, musician, standard, gleaming pennant - 270

26 Infernal Guard with blunderbusses, musician, standard, banner of swiftness - 503

30 Hobgoblins with shields, musician, standard - 147

Iron Daemon - 285

Deathshrieker Rocket- 100

Hellcannon - 210

Dreadquake Mortar with Slave Ogre - 215

Total - 2500

That Taur’Ruk is an absolute beast now :cheers and I think the BSB is passable, although he lacks a ward save he has a rerollable 2+ armor save.

Only 6 extra models in the blunderbuss unit, so if I lose 7 they’d no longer have a reroll. Also, the hobgoblins will really need the scaly skin bubble spell to go off, giving them a 3+ armor save, to hold anything up with only 30 of them in the unit. But, it also makes them more of a throwaway unit if necessary. The blunderbusses will absolutely love the +1 to hit and armor piercing spell, and will have a 1+ save with the afore-mentioned scaly skin bubble. Finally, I think the blunderbusses and templates can thin down horde armies, while lucky center-template shots, lore of metal, and the bull centaurs can target big / armored stuff.

Once again, thoughts greatly appreciated  keeping in mind that I’d like to use these units, but am obviously very open in how to configure them.

Samanos:

if you want a ward save on the castellan, just drop the dawnstone and find 10 points somewhere and give him a 5++.

taururk is very good now.

RiTides:

Thanks for the help on this, Samanos!

An alternate I may try, if I decide to use a Magma Cannon, is to swap out the Dreadquake for it and save 70 points. I’d use this to Finally add in a Khan on wolf (52) and either one more chaos dwarf or, more likely, 4 hobgoblins to try to get them up to critical mass. I’d then have to decide if I’m okay with the odd number, or drop the Taur’ruk’s luckstone to get them to 35

That list may be better and will be quite tempting due to my desire to run a Khan, and my inability to fit one in with the Dreadquake.

RiTides:

Here is that list, for reference:

Sorcerer-Prophet, General, Level 4 with Dispel Scroll, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield - 375 (LORE OF METAL)
Infernal Castellean, BSB with Dawnstone, Enchanted Shield - 160
Bull Centaur Taur’ruk with Great Weapon, Blackshard Armor, Crown of Command, Dragonhelm - 230
Hobgoblin Khan on Wolf - 52

5 Bull Centaurs Renders with great weapons, musician, standard, gleaming pennant - 270

26 Infernal Guard with blunderbusses, musician, standard, banner of swiftness - 503
35 Hobgoblins with shields, musician, standard - 169.5

Deathshrieker Rocket - 100
Magma Cannon - 145
Iron Daemon - 285

Hellcannon - 210

Total - 2499.5

My main concern with this list is if the blunderbusses are the right way to go with the Infernal Guard. I figure the only way to know will be to try it out, but I’ll definitely be open to trying other configurations with them. Thanks again for the thoughts
