[Archive] A tounge-in-cheek proposal on the Horned Rat, plus scenario idea

Admiral:

Where do the Horned Rat and his Verminlords dwell inside the Warp, and how do they avoid the attentions of the major Chaos Gods?

My proposal is that the rat Daemons’ main home in the Realm of Chaos, as far as places exist there, is Gnawhame or whatever else it’s called.

Now picture Verminlords like the Warp’s equivalent of house rats hiding inside ratholes in the wall, probably safe from the predations of the big Four’s clashing armies.

Then imagine Verminlords scurrying out into the Realm of Chaos, in a scenario of your own devising, to loot and steal “cheese” from the Ruinous Powers. This was especially appropriate back in 7th edition WHFB, when Daemons were… cheesy.

It should work especially well for campaigns, where Verminlords can keep the “cheese” rules after the game.

Skink:

That sounds pretty good! Kinda reminds me of Dark Eldars (living in a secure place almost nobody has acess to, and getting out to raid at whim), and perfectly make sense to me!

About the scenario, obviously the “enemies” would be Chaos Daemons… The background could include the Horned Rat sending his minions to sneaky sneaky steal some trinckets from the Big Fours’ realms (the Disease Garden, the Pleasure Palace, the Impossible Labyrinth, and the Blood Fortress) in order to trigger a war between them. This could lead to a campaign… I remember an old White Dwarf where a group of Catachans were trying to sneak inside an Ork settlements to booby trap Ammo deposits. I can see Vermin Lords scuttling trough the battlements of the Blood Fortress to “silence” Bloodletter sentinels. You can even make special rules for Vermin Lords Clans. A hulking four armed Vermin Lord of Clan Moulder for instance.

Sticklander:

I could definitely see a stealth/skirmish based campaign, where the sole priority is stealing the Chaos cheese…

Fuggit Khan:

I’ll never be able to read “Who moved my Cheese?” quite the same again.

Admiral, this is brilliant :cheers

cornixt:

I always figured that the warp was such a weird place that there was no need for anyone to hide and that it was pointless to attack, which was why individual gods want domination over the real world because that is the only way to change the warp.

Admiral:

Thank you, all. Good ideas!

Skaven are vermin in the “real” world, and thus their rat Daemons should be the same in the Warp. One thing which talks in the favour of Verminlords’ thieving and success at surviving is the lack of any official cat Daemons.

Now have a whimsy knack at rat Daemon inflitration if you dare. :cheers

The Realm of Chaos was rather portrayed as an otherworldly place of constant war between the Chaos gods.

This is Warhammer after all. There is only war!

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Shadow of the Horned Rat - PS1 - 1990’s. Loved that game. Doing a scenario based on it would be awesome…going through the Warhammer World and gathering mercenaries as you go from quest to quest.
