To be honest i agree with Ashur, and not just because of the similarity of our names ;). The Assyrian look makes them somewhat unique in style and i think it should be kept, albeit with the hats maybe scaled down a bit.
The last thing i want to see is the Chaos Dwarfs going back to their original incarnation and just looking like short marauders.
Thankfully in the fluff at least, GW does seem to be keeping some of the Ancient Near East flavour of the Chaos Dwarfs, with the Immortals mentioned in Grudgebearer.
Im torn between both views. This as many new models(hellcannon crew, conversion like Xanders etc) looks very nice and they are not bad in anyway. At the same time I love the old style that was babylonian and was very unique for must games that has Fantasy. I would see that as a loss too. I tihnk the old style laos look very good if painted in a nice way, not the old comic style with all red. I just tried out my own warriors to paint and the became really good with just another grimmer and updated painting. So the hats dont need to looks stupid. So all in all I would like to have the old hats left but GW seems to want to make a fresh new start with CD and thats ok also, just so I can keep my old ones and can add some bit here and there. I can see that a split in the socety of Cd could have happend where the beardlings goes more into the chaos stuff while some old ones keep to the old ways which are babolyians
Grim and dark. More serious to keep in touch with the Warhammer world. That’s exactly why assyrians look so nice. Few civilisations have described their military campaigns with such cruelty.
Big hats must of course be replaced with something else.

Blasphemer! The Hats PLEASE Hashut. They make him giddy like a school girl, which is both exciting and disturbing at once!

That would be a good reason to replace them. :hat off:hat
Let me say it like this: replaced by smaller big hats. At least not bigger than the CD himself, like the one in the old Taurus rider.
For my army, Im working on persian style tiaras. Along with horns to make them look like dwarfs and to remember the horns the assyrians used to represent Ashur (not me).
Let’s not start that ‘hats vs no hats’ discussion here. As Danek said in his opening post, this has been done to death on HoH.
I think everyone should do it as he / she pleases. Me, I’m not against masks at all, but IMO it’s the big hats style that made the Chaos Dwarfs iconographic when they were a regular Warhammer army. And seeing the only drawing shown of a Chaos Dwarf in the 7th edition rulebook (see also at the top right corner of this website), I doubt the big hats will be removed alltogether. Probably, they will be seriously reduced in size though.
The assyrian look must stay. I know many people didn't like it and prefer the new Hellcannon look. But I still believe that having a dwarf mesopotamien civilisation in the Warhammer world, is an excellent idea. Their background is the most intriguing of all. The "modern" aspect must not replace it. I'm starting a new CD army based on conversions. I'm doing my best to keep them as assyrians. Thanks for the conversions tips Iv found here.

Actually, all the things that gave them their Assyrian underlinings are still present in the "modern look" and have not been changed yet. The stepped Mesopotamian pyramids, the dark hair, the bull god, none of it has really changed. And besides, it was common to throw your enemy back at them, as it were, by taking the dead enemies collected from the field and using them to terrorize the enemy.
This is simply a much more warhammer version of throwing a diseased or dead corpse over the walls.
