Morgrim Blackbeard:
Went out to Hall of Heroes at Campbelltown and played Ocelot in a game of AoS. It was my first game and his second I think. It was great to meet him and I found a like minded gamer so hurrah!
I was using my Chaos Dwarf army using the Chaos Warrior rules and he used his High Elves.
From memory he had two Bolties which he placed in the corners of his deployment zone on some nice hills.
A unit of Ellyrian Reavers, 3 Units of 10 swordmasters (Ocelot will correct me if my numbers are out), a unit of 24 Spears and 20 Seaguard I think. He had two mages one of which was his general of course.
I plonked down 14 Chaos Warriors, 16 chaos warriors, 2 units of 5 Marauder cav, Hellcannon, 4 Dragon Ogres (Bull Centaurs) , chaos lord, chaos sorcerer lord and exalted bsb. The Lord was my general.
As i was outnumbered I picked the Seize Ground sudden death condition. I picked some woods in the middle of his deployment zone.
The hellcannon had the potential to be devestating and got off one shot but didn’t do much. his Bolties then picked off its crew so for the rest of the game it was out of control and basically headed to the seaguard who then held it for the rest of the game slowly wounding it.
Both warriors units went up the middle either side of the woods followed by the characters. One of the cav units spent all game in a running battle with the Reavers which they eventually won.
The 16 warriors took a few units of Swordmasters took a heap of damage but hung around for the Dragon Ogres to smash in and finish the combat. The the DO charged and killed his mage/general.
The other 14 warriors took on the spears and the elves did themselves proud slugging away to allow some swordmasters in to the combat. The Lord and BSB joined in the fight and by then end of turn 4 there were only 2 Chaos warriors left, the sword masters had gone but the spear elves stood strong.
At the end of turn 4 I had quite a lot of figures near the woods, the bull centaurs/dragon ogres were in the woods, so it ended in a major victory for me.
We had a blast and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to another game.
Observations- I didnt summon with my Chaos Lord because I didnt feel that was in the spirit of the game my opponent was playing- summoning is OP. Characters arent the combat monsters of yore. My Lord was good but nothing special it was his commanding presence more than anything that was handy.
Infantry is still the heart of the game, with the right synergy of spells and ability they can take a beating and hang around for the more elite units to get the killing blow in.
I have lots of things going through my mind like whether the split up units is better or one big unit?..what weapons are the best choice for different units?..Maybe two sorcerer Lords is a better option than a Chaos Lord plus the Sorcerer Lord.
Had great fun!!!
