[Archive] Army start help

Ghaust Mortium:

Well, this is one of my first posts ever on this site, and I don’t even have a Chaos dwarf army. Now, I want one, but I have no idea how to get started. So I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on how to get my force started. Please and thank you. :hat off

Joshmohr:

Battle for skull pass! I’d also get some Green Stuff.

Loki:

First welcome to the site Ghaust Mortium good to have you with us, it really depends how you want your army to look, if your going for the classic big hat look eBay is your best bet, but if you want to convert a cd force then battle for skull pass and lots of green stuff is the best way of doing this, we have loads of great armies on this site that are converted from battle for skull pass models.

Best of luck :hat off

Baggronor:

Take a look through the galleries and hobby sections for inspiration looks-wise.

I would say Battle for Skull Pass converting is probably the best option anyways, as ebay can be very pricey and inconvenient. The Big Hat look is still an option, there’s a couple of really good Big Hat armies converted from plastics on this forum.

As far as what troop choices to go for, I would say a hero, a block of warriors with shields, some blunderbussmen and some slave units are the basic building blocks. The Skull Pass set gives you those, and you can always convert the other Dwarf/Goblin plastics to make more. From there its onto war machines (again the Dwarf artillery plastic set is nice) Black Orcs, Bull Centaurs (possible plastic chaos knight conversions? search this forum again :)) and so forth.

the Battle for Skull pass is prolly the most economical way to get started, additionally you could pick up the dwarf sets then paint/convert to a more chaos dwarfy theme.

If your really into conversions and dont mind hacking… if i remember you have some empire/brettonians you could turn into chaos dwarfs? just a thought… i find it hard to convert something i might want to use later; which is why my loft looks like an old gw store - hahahaha.

You will find many great inspirations here throughout the site the hard part is deciding which style you want to recreate in your flavor. Welcome and enjoy.
