[Archive] Artisans XV Inspiration

Abecedar:

What was your inspiration(s) for your entries?

Was it you wanted that lore and those spells specifically and worked fron there?

Was it like mine. I picked what came fresh to my mind from games I’d played or just the image from the written fluff for that lore.

1.   Chose Miscast as well basically I always miscast sooner or later.

2.   The Penumbral Pendulum.  The image of a ghostly pendulum coming out of the gloom pleased me.

3.   Fate of Bjuna. I thought the 5 spikes came up better in the photos. I don’t think I’ve ever used it or seen it used

Did you know that penumbral is a real word?  I didn’t!

PENUMBRAL… Dictionary definition:

A partial shadow, as in an eclipse, between regions of complete shadow and complete illumination.

The grayish outer part of a sunspot.

An area in which something exists to a lesser or uncertain degree

Here is a pic of all the lore of death markers.  The number of spikes tell you its spell number. The one with no spikes is the signature spell, I just couldn’t decide what to put on top of it to indicate that.

MadHatter:

You where among my favourites! Awesome work.

I wanted to put Hashut-runes on the destroyer and felt like there should be brands on the battlefield aswell, magma was given

Abecedar:

I really liked the runes. Doing runes for all of the hashut spells would be great.

Bloodbeard:

I really had a hard time coming up with anything specific and went for days without any inspiration. I wanted to use genii with banners, because I could paint some cool pictures of the spell in effect. But I didn’t have the time.

So I wanted to do something that looked like an actual spell hitting!

I liked the miscast token, it’s really funny. Reminds me of clicking sheep in Warcraft. Is the musroom cloud the size of a template? Because then it’s absolutely genius. Will have to make me one of those.

Abecedar:

The miscast marker is 40mm. Just standard size bases on them. I didn’t think I could do an actual template justice, so I avoided trying to.

Fuggit Khan:

Abecedar, you had my vote, your ‘miscast’ token was my favorite, as soon as I saw it, it was love at first sight

My inspiration for my tokens simply came from my most favorite spells: Purple Sun, Final Transmutation and Ash Storm.

I could not think of any sort of representation for Ash Storm…Final Transmutation was easy enough, I made an elf mage turned to gold. And then I somehow lost the golden elf mini during my move to a new home :frowning:

Purple Sun was fun to make…I basically made it the way I have always envisioned it, a purple magical orb with magical tendrils lashing out at victims. True, the Purple Sun does not work well against elves, but I always enjoy dying elves, so I went that route.

All in all, the entries from everybody were very clever and well done, I enjoyed each and every one of the tokens people made :hat off

Abecedar:

Those that were able to build what they envisaged had the most fun with it I think.

I was toying with how to put the lore atribute theme into each markers. Preferably as the pedestal part of the markers like I did for “Death” with the Skulls. Shadows 'Smoke and Mirrors" and Fire would seem easy enough. But Metal and Hashut haven’t been given any inspiring images yet

Admiral:

Smart collection of counters there, Abecedar! I had no idea you built the whole arsenal of those spiked Lore of Death ones.

I’m impressed by all of the counters you folks turned up with for the contest. There were “only” seven of entries, and each one was unique yet fit the bill perfectly for CDs. From Bloodbeard’s clearly Daemonic spell markers, through Herby’s fire and toad to Abecedar’s very nice mixture. To everyone who participated, well done! :cheers

Had I not been the organizer I’d probably have tried to show up for the party with a bull’s head fireball.
