Has anyone ran a S.Prophet on B.Tarus with Destroyer?
On paper it seems these two together can get a lot accomplished. The Destroyer can shield the S.prophet from cannons. The S.Prophet can clear chaff with burning wrath and even 2++ flame ward heroes with curse of hashut. In CC if the destroyer and prophet double team a target they will win, pretty simple.
So what are peoples experience with these?
Geist:
I have tryed to do a great bale with Prophet on-board. I will tell you right now will regret it. It is a totally bad ass thing, until you make a charge that you should not be making at all. It seems so bad ass in theory and then you run it. I have not run them together in a while, I just get frustrated by the entire oh look my bull has no save of any sort and theres skinks over there.
ThorAxe:
Depends on your local meta. Like Geist said, mass skink fire and the like will ruin it. Some armies have no such counters. In tourney settings, you will face counters to this list. A khan or a decent unit of bull centaur can fill the support role you are looking for for the destroyer. Also, overkill to have both destroyer and taurus against same unit if enemy unit is weak against either.
I personally like it. In smaller points games where multiple destroyers is unfeasible, Taurus works pretty well as a stop-gap destroyer. My only issue with monster mounts like this is that, at least when I play, the taurus (or lamassu when I play) is oftentimes a distance away from the gobbos who require the general’s leadership, or the monster gets shot out from beneath the lord, leaving him stranded.
Have considered the daemon flask of whatever, the 100 point item, as a counter to most counters to this set up. The lord becomes more vulnerable due to less protective gear or lack of arcane items (enchanted shield is golden, as it grants 1+ save for cheap), but will utterly ruin the masses of enemy war machines and chariots that house canons, while potentially scaring some of the enemy BS-based shooting that could ruin the army. Have not tried, as I regularly face chaos daemons, and they are immune to said item while their cannons are weak against the things that matter, but seems useful against orcs and goblins, empire, dwarfs to a lesser extent, ogres to an even lesser extent, and perhaps skaven and lizardmen.
Heavygear:
I played this combo at Buckeye Battles. My lord only died once and that was in close combat to lizard men and he miscast first taking two wounds. I played against dark elves, tomb kings, lizzies, night goblins. Anything with poison is a hard counter to chaos dwarves in general so don’t let that stop you. The lizardmen player board wiped me. The lord was last to die in turn six as I flew him out harms way whenever possible as points denial. He is harder to kill with ranged weapons than you might think. If it isn’t magical you are re rolling wounds and honestly they are usually more worried about the destroyer who has the ward save. You need to get your lord in close to use Death magic and the bull helps with that. My only complaint is you are kind of stuck with the dark forged weapon. I would rather have something else. Enchanted or charmed shield, earthing rod and blood of hashut are common combos. Someone on this forum mentioned using the healing potion. I think this is a great idea and plan to try it in place of the earthing rod. A 600 point lord on flying beasty under the current rules is not optimal but has way more style points than some dude hiding in or behind a unit of rank and file. With the recent trend in large model kits from GW I expect to see some changes in monster mounts in the next rulebook.
