[Archive] Bastiladon as Destroyer

Najaa:

Hey guys,

I Just want some advice.

I was thinking about take à bastiladon and bring him some minor convention to play it as a Destroyer. Im just fan of this GW model and totally imagine my dwarves unleash this massive créature and let it break everything on his road.

My big “?” Is about the size of the model and of the base. Are they okay to play it as a destroyer ? I have never seen it by my own eyes.

Thanks for helping me !

NoisyAssassin:

Bastilodon model is going to be too small for a Destroyer without some major converting. It fits snugly on its 50x100mm chariot base, and the Destroyer is on a 100x150mm base.

cornixt:

Anything that fits that snugly on a chariot base will look fine on the Destroyer base.

Geist:

It is suppose to be a “DESTROYER” massive huge powerful. Does your tiny lil bullet dino really capture all that power? Unlike the others I firmly believe it will be too much dead space putting such a small model on such a huge base.

Bloodbeard:

I think I’ll work fine, especially if you do a cool job with the base. The models large tail sticks out pretty far from the chariot base, It’ll look good enough on a 100*150 base. Plus I haven’t seen this model as a destroyer before - so go for it!

And that crystal / mechanism is a wicked cool bit!

Malorndk:

I don’t know the current model size but if a hellcanon fits on a 100*150 base, the everything bigger than a hellcanon can rock the same base.

Abecedar:

Just looked at the images for it and it overhangs the chariot base a fair bit so the bigger base will not be too bad at all. It will give you room to customize base

Serroth:

In my opinion this dinosaur does not look agile enough to justify the movement or initiative of a destroyer. Short, thick legs, heavy armor…
But there definitely is some modelling potential!
Like bending it into a posture where it rears up and some dwarfs having trouble holding its shackles.

Here is a paintjob you might consider for your destroyer according to the usual paintschemes of our chaos dwarfs.

Ben Saunders:

I don’t think I’ve seen the model in person, but from the pictures it looks like it overhangs the chariot base by quite a bit, so I’m another who reckons it would work fine on the larger base.

Will be interesting to see it done.

JMR:

Size-wise, I think it can work. The main thing it lacks, however, is height. I’d consider putting him on a cliff, possibly overlooking a magma-pool if you like a fiery theme.

Are you planning to add anything on top of the lizard, or will you use just the beast itself? I think the beast on it’s own lacks some… “presence” when put on the tabletop. It is after all basically a beast of burden. I’m looking forward to see what you come up with though.

Edit: Thinking some more about it, I think I’d toy with using that beast of burden look to your advantage, and have one or even several chaos dwarfs riding it. Some kind of throne for a Sorcerer Lord or a howdah with 2-3 handlers on it. This would help with giving the model more height.
