[Archive] Bearded up

grunts:

Ok, well I’ve managed to fix that GROSS oversight in the previous pics of my CD Warriors (I was just missing beards, is it that big a deal? :~)

Here’s the first model ready for priming and painting.

[attachment=156]

Its based on the last edition of plastic dwarf (whatever edition they were prior to [[BFSP]]) with weapons and helms from the new Chaos Warrior plastics. Top it off by halfing a buckler from the Thunderer plastics for shoulder plates, add a green stuff beard and voila!

Its my first try doing beards, so there’s definately room for improvement. Any tips would be appreciated.

wallacer:

That’s really nice.

Personally i’d put some little skulls or speartips at the end of the beard dreadlocks, but that’s just personal preference.

The detail on the dreadlocks really is excellent.

Something like this?

Ghrask Dragh:

Looking good!

I think those warrior bodies are so much easier to convert than the current models, I just ordered a box from eBay to do up some warriors.

Hope they come out as good as this, keep it up grunts! :cheers

Yeah, the multi part warriors are soooo much easier to work with then the new plastics. Very little cutting needed.

On a side note, I was originally trying to use the old chaos warrior plastics for the bodies, but it looked terrible. Way to out of proportion.

grismund:

So would you guys recomend buying the older dwarf plastic kit over the new bfsp ones?

Its all a matter of taste really. I myself like the multipart models, while others prefer the single piece models. Though I suppose the fact that I live with a vanilla dwarf player who hates the bfsp dwarves has skewed my opinion somewhat.

Rootbeer:

Nice conversion, good beard, head is sitting a little too high so shave of some more neck next time.

Rootbeer
yeah, the height of the head bothers me a little too.The problem isn't necessarily the necks being too long, its that to get the head at the proper height, the back of his helmet has to be cut down to fit the models shoulders (otherwise he's looking at his feet).I've decided to fix this by giving them all furs like I had initally put on my champion (shown here https://discourse.chaos-dwarfs.com/t/6555)

For me - Hell Yeah!!!!!! I'm really not a fan of the new dwarfs, how the likes of Xander and Snotling have created such good looking models from them is beyond me. I am nearly finished with one I have converted from the previous edition Dwarfs and I am very happy with it, it's alot easier to convert. It is personal preference though depending on how you want your finished warriors to look. I will post mine soon.

Your blog is coming along nicely grunts. Looking forward to seeing more! :cheers

Thanks Ghrask Dragh, looking forward to seeing how your warriors turned out with the old plastics!

How about neither?! The new normal Dwarf plastics (not BFSP) are much nicer than the older ones with separate head/torso/legs. Unfortunately I bought loads of the latter just to save money on the price increase GW were about to put in at the time. If I'd known the new models were going to be that much better I would have waited.

cool. Im not sure if Im going to use chaos helmets or dwarf masks, but either way Ill probably have to stick on some beards, and the ones above look pretty good

wallacer:

Yes, those speartips at the end of the dreadlocks look very nice indeed.
