[Archive] Beasts of War: Russian Alternative Hobgoblin Command Group preview

JMR:

I’m not sure if we have seen these fellows before in a painted state, but Beasts of War have posted up a preview of Russian Alternative’s command group for their hobgoblin unit.

Have a look at all the pictures here.

Will you get these for your army?

Yodrin:

I have seen the models unpainted, and loved them then. Painted they look awesome, and it’s a great paint job also.

Wolf :

I have to admit after I’ve seen them painted, I’m very tempted to trade in my converted stormvermin with goblin heads. For a a unit of these guys.

Really nice paint job.

MadHatter:

Absolutely love them. They look great, good with a modern alternative reminding so much of the classic line. :h

Real happy to see… If I wasent a sucker for perry sculpts I’d definately go RA.

torn:

I’m actually not a fan. I prefer admirals heads, and the lower leg and foot seem to lack definition and character. The instrument is pretty cool tho.

Admiral:

They look even better with paint on. The only thing they lack is ears. I’ll have to get a kit to mix into my future Hobgoblin units. Great work, Rozmax. :cheers

Thanks, but to play the devil’s advocate you can be sure to get models sculpted by professionals who knows symmetry and coherent sizing, if you get RA miniatures. Whilst I hope my heads will be worthy enough and show up on a lot of Hobgoblins once cast, I’m a raw amateur about stuff not related to sculpting detail and facial expressions.

torn:

If I’m honest I’m not really a fan of any of the RA stuff. Their chaos dwarfs are the best, the blunderbuss guys especially, but I’m just not into them. I think it is the poses, probably more so on the human sized models but a lot of the poses are very unrealistic. The dynamic marauder guys look more like they are doing street dance than fighting.

That being said technically the sculpts are amazing. Some of the ideas are really original and I can see them being very popular,.

I just prefer characterful models rather than accurate models.

torn
Amen.

Malorndk:

A cello playing hobo is pretty cool!

I don’t really need any of them tho

Firehammer:

I have to see the rest, but at the moment their cloths and armour look too European for me. And the cello doesn’t help. But we will see.

Grimstonefire:

I quite like these. Like all the RA models they are highly characterful and well sculpted.

Wolf :

I agree these are very nice models, but the price makes it very hard to justify.

Are you joking? 10 models for 32$. Forgeworld 10 models for 64$. And you can have with RA blunderbusses and great weapons miniatures which you cannot take with Forgeworld. Same amount of miniatures with half the price and ( in my opinion) better quality and sculpt. And not that fragile resin that brokes when you try to pin something up to the body.

Sticklander:

I certainly like them! Lots of character, and I shall be using them alongside my stormvermin conversions!

I disagree, you need a minimum of two units of 20 Hobgoblins to have any real use from them.

You can get skaven storm vermin and goblin heads from ebay, for much less.

I have 60 Hobgoblin conversion parts, bought through ebay for a total cost of £23.

P.S comparing infernal guard to hobgoblins even on a price level is an insult.

You hobgoblin lover:cheers

Bloodbeard:

Well that's no cello. See it as a sort of Bladder fiddle. Add some bells and stuff and voilà. ;)

Herby
Hadn't thought of it as a bladder fiddle - that's cool. In danish that is called:
