I’m thinking whether or not to use big hats in my up coming chaos dwarf army. What would be the cheapest/easiest way to make big hats. I have hear golf tees work good. I think that might look a little bland so some greenstuff maybe? Any and all help will be appreciated!
thumb tacks is the easiest way to go. I do not like golf tees so much.
I found that rolling a tube of green stuff is not so difficult. Let it dry and cut the the two ends with a cutter and, voilà, you get a perfect hat, ready to be decorated.
Lately I’ve tried thumb tacks filled with green stuff, this is the best compromise as the tack helps you to get the perfect size and shape and green stuff gives the curve and the shape the tack does not have.
I found that making hats is easier than I thought! So no more excuses to not have tall and oversized hats on your dwarfs :hat
Good to hear that your going to be doing a big hat army , thumb tacks are by far the easiest and cheapest way of doing this , can always add green stuff on for extra detail or just leave them bare they look good either way, best of luck and look forward to seeing some pics soon :hat off
@ Loki- the hat in your avatar is exactly what I’m looking for! Are the little designs green stuff and what else did you use. That would be very helpful!
I had a friend that did some conversion work on warriors for big hats. I will see if he still has any left as he got rid of them last year. I know he said he used thumb tacks for the hats and used the before mentioned golf tees for his blunderbusses.
Once I’m back at uni, I’ll be able to finally upload a tutorial on the very subject, but push pins do seem to work the best. Golf tees are more appropriate for characters or blunderbusses.
