A promising start. Good to see you use those old Chaos Warrior heads. Scratchbuilding for the win. Not least for Tauruses. The Hellcannon looks really good at this early stage.

The Taurus looks good, but I would have liked to see a bit more dynamic stand, his legs look a bit ā€œstiffā€.

Update 9: Painted Daemonsmith and Infernal Guard

A promising start. Good to see you use those old Chaos Warrior heads. Scratchbuilding for the win. Not least for Tauruses.

Admiral
Thanks. I plan on scratchbuilding/converting the entire army. But after I started the project I’m begging to love the old models and I’ve seen so many cool new minis. Russian Alternative and Ravenswood etc.

Yet I have enough parts to convert a large army, so better stick with that.
The Taurus looks good, but I would have liked to see a bit more dynamic stand, his legs look a bit ā€œstiffā€.

Yodrin
When he’s glued to the base I’ll make him stand only on his back legs. I haven’t made it work yet, but I planned on adding some fure to the hooves. After your reply I’m thinking about making it fire (blazing body and such) to give it a feel of movement. Thanks for the CC.

Daemonsmith

Finished my first daemonsmith. Here’s some pictures of him. The blitz kindda mess up some of the colour blending and highlights, but you’ll get the idea.

Infernalguard

Still need to paint 6 models (inc command group) for the unit (and I plan on making 5 more, so the regiment will end at 25). My test mini needs the lava on his base redone.

Games

I spend a day gaming with some friends recently. Didn’t get any pics (since my GH entry was on the table). I played two games allied with a WoC army against HE and Dwarfs. It was some cool scenarios. We destroyed our enemy in the first game, the second one was closer (my ally was off the table in turn 5) but we won.

The last game was your typical ā€œIt’s getting late and we’ve had a lot of beersā€ game. Forgetting rules, making mistakes and such. I allied with the HE and battled the Dwarfs and WoC. I ended as a draw, 70 VPs difference in the enemies favor.

So far 4 games down with The 13th Danger Zone. Three wins and a draw. Not bad, not bad at all.

Yodrin:

Your Deamonsmith looks really good, and so does the unit, great work!!! Love the colors btw!

Fuggit Khan:

I love the dwarf captive tied up to the pole in the back…you did a really nice paint job with his eyes and expression.

He looks scared out of his wits :hashut

As he should :cheers

Thanks Yodrin. I'm pretty pleased with the colour scheme myself.

Captured slayers are great. They have so many uses. I'm also planning the other BfSP slayer as part of a banner.

Update 10: Bits and future plans
So in a couple of days I'll make the large Golden Hat post. Lots of WiPs photos of the entry and some more close ups. Four pictures are way too little.

I started sorting my bits - the pile has gotten pretty big. Just thought I share some of the projects I came up with in the process.

Bull Centaurs

Originally i wanted to use GW ogres. But then I saw another blog (forgotten which one) and he used Mantics KoW ogres. They have more muscles and they're not fat. So I just ordered 6 of them of ebay.

I'll be using one a a taur'uk, 4 as regular BCs and the last will become a slave ogre.

The slayer will be crucified to the banner of the unit. The flag itself is from an orc battlestandard.

Flame Cannons

Got bits to start off two flame cannons. The barrels are from some 40k chaos warmachine. The shields/sides of the flamecannons are from the chaos warshrine.

I want my warmachine crews to have masks on (instead of helmets). So I'll be using old chaos warrior head for that. I'll trim the top of, so it's just a bare skull mask.

Deathshrieker

I should be making two deathshriekers (based on the armylists I've seen around here). So I'll have to get a second dethrocket missile. The sides for the machine are once again from the chaos warshrine.

Lamassu

Got this old manticore from a friend, who didn't need it. This guy will be turned into a lamassu. Get a big greenstuff curly beard and another tail. The bullheads are for the top of the classic CD hero mount banners.

I'm thinking about using the phoenix wings for the lamassu because I already have wings made for my baletaurus. And they are pretty cool.

Iron Demon Engine

I've never seen an armylist with an iron demon in it. But I found this broken truck toy and I have to build an iron demon. The pink part is clearly the front of a train. The gatling gun will become the steam cannon. The white things are from a tractor toy, and they'll go in the front of the irondemon - to mash enemies to pulp.

K'daii

Found some minotaurs from my old warhammer quest. I'll cut of the legs. I plan to make them look like minotaur genies. I'll build the magical lower body from but up sprue and with green stuff I'll make it look like flames.

I'll have to find 3 more minotaurs. I've read that 3 is not enough in a unit - you have to go 6.

Infernal Steam Guard

Inspired by Sticklander I'll also make some steamguard.

These bulky old chaos warriors will make the base. Got 40 of them for free. It should be simple enough to cut the legs up and make them shorter.

After some games played, I've found out that i need great weapons. So this unit will have GWs.

Also it's time to bring some bighats to the army. I planned on using old plastic chaos dwarfs and just cut of the hats. I read on CDO that they were very cheap. ... well right now the price on ebay is crazy.

So I'll haveto use drawing pins for the hats. I'll add some skull symbols from empire shields to make a mask on the helmets.

I've also got a bunch of spacemarine backpacks. I'll be using the exaust pibes from them and put them on the back of the steamguard.

I plan of using bearstuffing to make smoke.

Lots of dudes

I bought 60 dwarfs in bits for 20Ā£ (new and old warriors and thunderes). Don't really have plans for 'em. But it was so cheap I had to buy them. I have all the dwarfs I need for future project. Some will become warmachine crew, some will become blunderbusses.

So so
Most of the above have been given to me, bartered for other bits or bought. But I've only used around 35Ā£ on it all.

Now I just need to decide what project to start first.

Sticklander:

Interested to see how the Bull Centaur comes out… and the Lammasu… and the flame cannon… and the iron demon engine… and the death shrieker… Basically, everything looks pretty interesting!

Always glad to help pass ideas on! :hat off

Also, if you’re looking for some plastic big hats at a reasonable price, I have more than I know what to do with!

If you don’t get the ones I’m giving away for the Golden Hat, would you be interested if I offered you some of the others I have?

Yodrin:

A lot of bits;), LF to seeing how it all comes together - GL btw;)

Fuggit Khan:

I’m especially looking forward to seeing that toy truck become an Iron Daemon…very creative idea you have there, I just love all the wonderful creativity in peoples blogs here on CDO.

:hat off

ClawLeader:

Awaiting update eagerly…

Soulassassin:

Lots of good conversion ideas here, keep us posted

I might take you up on that. If the price is right I could use some 25 old plastic bighats. I'll try to make a test mini with a drawing pin, if it doesn't look good I'll take some from you.

Or perhaps a trade, if I have anything you need.
Talk-talk.

Yodrin, Soulassasin, Claw Leader, Fuggit Khan
Thanks for the comments guys. I can't really start any of the new projects before I'm fineshed painting my 20 fireglaives and 3 heroes. So I'll try to paint it all up in december.
Which project should i start with?

Hellcannon
It was really fun taking part in the Golden Hat. I didn't win it - but it did push me to finish my hallcannon that could otherwise have been an eternity project.

So here comes alot of WIP pictures and some of the finished miniature. Four pictures for a GH isn't enough.

The beginning
Started the project, because I went cold in my painting of miniatures. Barrel made from plasticpipe, plastic stribs and milliput. Put some cut up faces into it.

The wheels are made from plastic stribs, spearpoints and milkcarton lids.

The frontshield is for keeping the barrel up. The skull is from Arcane Ruins, cut it up to add some smaller horns. Added the beard after seeing a great toturial here on CDO, thought it would make it more Dawi Zharr.

The wood is made from green foam stuff that's used to put beneath floorboards. It's easy to draw lines in and they'll stay there. Great for making stuff of "wood".

I wanted some kind of projectile on the gun and it needed to like like a monster. Since it might break loose and eat opponents. I think the barrelmouth is from a great big 40k demon engine of some kind.

Basing and basecoat
The rocks are made from bark, the dirt is made of coffepowder and the lava streams is made from a thick layer of woodglue.

I started running into problems at this time. The paint wouldn't stick to the plastic of the milk lids. It kindda fell of in big chunks. I really like the look of the wheels, and i want to use them for the next warmachines.

My plan is to give the entire wheel surface a good touch with sandpaper and my knife. Then I'll give it a thin layer of woodglue before basecoating it. Then I think it'll stick.

Painting painting painting
I painted parts of the machine and glued them together. It would be impossible to glue it all together and then paint it. First I painted the frontshield grey - but in the end I found the machine lacked my army colour. So I changede it to purple.

The wheels are actually my favourite part of the cannon. I really like them - they hit my imagination of Chaos Dwarf warmachines on the spot. So i plan of using the same wheels for all warmachines. Just with only one set of small wheels. The Iron Demon will have them reversed, sƄ the big ones are at the back of the engine.

Finished Cannon
So here's some pictures of the finished cannon and some close ups that didn't make it to GHXX.

I love the BfSP slayers. They are great for conversions! This poor fellow is about to become food for a demonic cannon - he never became a demonslayer for sure.

One crewman is picking up the food the a big hook and feeding it to the cannon. A crewmember on the ground help lift up the slave with a pitchfork.

The smoke is inspired by and made using Samaels tips. From his ultra cool showcase. Will have to build the smoke around some wire - because it's allready broken.

Here you're able to see the faces in the barrel. There are 5 faces in every "quadrant". I imagine the barrel changing shape after eating a slave - imprinting the screaming face on the metal surface.

My idead was that all the skeletons of the eaten slaves end up in the bottom of the barrel. So I added the hatch and the tray so the cut empty the barrel. Then there's the turn-thingy that let the crew alter the hight of the cannon.

I originally planned on making a large greenstuff eye on top of the cannon. But due to timepresure i ended up just giving it a lot of teeth.

More work
This is not the right crew for the hellcannon. Unfortunately I (like many others) ran out of time. So I found some old miniatures from a CD Bloodbowl team, and quickly gave them some tools and a touch up with a paint brush (mainly drowning them in agrax earth shade).

That's also why they are green clothed (not purple) and their skin doesn't match the rest of the army.

I'll make some crew member later. They'll all have skullmask, curly beards, aprons, bare arms, gloves and some even nastier feedingtools.

BABIS:

I really liked this entry, it is very close to my Hellcannon Wip

Yodrin:

Looks great, like it a lot!!!

I'd prefer to sell them, as I'm not looking for much specific models at the moment, but if you have anything you think I might be interested in, drop me a PM :)

Fuggit Khan:

I loved your entry…I admit that I’m biased in that I love artillery models…but even so, your model is well done and I’m sure it makes a stunning centerpiece on the table top with your army :hat off

Topota:

I love all hellcannon“s conversions, and this is a great one.

nice work pal!!! :hat off

Fuggit Khan
Who doesn't love artillery? It's one of the most important tools in every army and it has been for a long time now. And cheers Mr. Fuggit - Thank you.

It's not really a centerpiece though - more like a flankpiece (see what I did there?)

Thank you Mr. Topota.

Update 12 - Great Weapon - Great Hat
I've been toying with the idea of some steampowered super dwarfs with great weapons. The elite (or ironsworn) of my army. They'll just be  fielded as IG with GW - but fluffwise. They are the bodyguard of Bloodbeard and his staff of engineers have made the steampowered armour.

So today i got tired of painting and decided to build a test miniature, to see if my idea would work. Here's the result.

Materials: Old warrior of chaos, a drawing pin, green stuff and plastic card and bits.

The facemask is made from an empire shield symbol and a chopped up marauder head. Bighathelmet is made of a drawing pin with some plastic card arrows for extra CDness.

Added some steel noses to the boots, so they can be painted as metal and not leather. Wouldn't make sense for the steam suit to be fitted with leather boots. Will make the next ones with "rivets" made with a 0,5mm pen. Just couldn't find it.

His gonna have an exhaust pipe on the back of his armor (it's too bare now). Will make it by chopping of the exhaust from a powerarmor backpack.

Size comparrison. He's big, very big. Not as tall as a human though, also had a sister of sigmar besides him - he was still a stunty.

But I think it works, it looks like a big suit. But I'll have to make every miniature so they fit together a specific way. He's standing at the very front of the base, so his neighbor can stand at the back, and so on. Also thinking of putting some dudes on  rock, so they'll go above their mates.

And I have a plan for a unitfiller.

Painting
Lot's of metal colours - not as much purple as normally. A lot of heavy weathering. Soot from exhaust pipe, oilspills in the joints and som smoke/steam from the pipe - made from teddy bear intestines (sorry kids).

Critique welcome as allways.

A special moment

Oh! I guess I'm officially a big hatter now. I swore that I would never have them in my army. I mocked them. Silly, stupid and worse I called them.

Well I changed my mind. Thanks to this community and all the awesome big hat armies out there!

gIL^:

A good use of those fugly chaos warriors. You have certainly approved on them.

Sticklander:

Interesting conversion… I might have a try at making old school 3rd edition chaos dwarfs with those old chaos warriors, as i have a bunch of them…
