[Archive] Bring me up to speed

Samanos:

Better yet, they could have asked us here from some feedback in the form of some type of trial/beta list.

Time of Madness

Time of Madness
Time of madness, no offense meant, but why would they ask the CD community?
you dont see other communities being asked about what should be in their army books, so why should WF ask the community here? it makes no sense to me.

Time of Madness:

GW asked the Dark Elf Forum community (druchii.net) when they put out the White Dwarf dark elf revision list.

When I submitted the Chaos Dwarf FAQ to FW on behalf of our community they accepted it with open arms and answered many of the questions purposed to them.

FW had a trial list for the Chaos Dwarfs released prior to the LoA list. All I’m saying is it would have resulted in a better balanced list if they had presented it to us first.

GW didn't ask, druchii.net went to GW (literally) and asked for those changes themselves. They didn't get everything they asked for (it was a pretty excessive list). I knew one of the guys who negotiated with GW, he'd only been playing Warhammer for about a year when he did it!

There is nothing to stop us from doing the same. If someone wants to start a thread on how to improve the army rules then they are more than welcome to do so. Maybe they will see light in a second printing of Tarmurkha, or another book.

unheilig:

So are people digging the LoA list?

Is is showing up at tourneys?

Since Forgeworld seems to be wrapping up its CD project, what are people doing to convert great weapons for Infernal Guard?

Is anyone having luck ranking those fat bastiches up on 20mm bases?

Da Crusha:

I like the LoA list a lot because it is new and has become the cd list used at tournaments around here. so far I know of 5 Tournaments that allow it in my area. so far I have not heard of it being denied.

Abecedar:

It has been denied this year, here in australia in january, because it was toooooo New!! Bound to have been denied in other benighted places, but is now being accepted sometimes, somewhere. (I ain’t bitter).

I like the LoA list 'cause it’s our foot in the door, and ts given me hours of painting fun so far with new models. It’s limited…Yes. But its there and i ain’t gunna bitch about that and I do not see a reversal from the powers that be and see us becoming defunct again.

as to great weapons on infernals, I’m just using big hats for now.

Baggronor:

I heard on the grapevine that Ben Curry, the Hobbyslayer himself, is taking up CDs. This is probably a bad thing :~

My gaming buddies still seem to be skeptical about it’s acceptability power-wise, but I think they just need to play against it more and learn the tricks. There are broken builds (like triple Magma Cannons, train convoy, etc) but mostly I think its ok.

I’ll be taking them to events again later this year.

Who the hell is Ben Curry?

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I haven’t found a tournament in California that doesn’t accept it.  Generally, around here at any rate, it is considered a mid-tier book with some obviously good and bad choices.

Here's the army break down for the SAWS Challenge here in California May 5th, 6th in case anyone is curious:

So far:
>
> ========================
> Bretonnians - 2
> Chaos Beast - 3
> Chaos Daemon - 6
> Chaos Dwarfs - 3
> Chaos Mortal - 8
> Dark Elves - 2
> Dwarves - 3
> Empire - 3
> Lizardmen - 8
> Ogre Kingdoms - 9
> Orcs and Goblins - 2
> Skaven - 5
> Tomb Kings - 2
> Vampire Counts - 9
> Wood Elves - 3

As you can see, Chaos Dwarfs (LOA) have more representation that O&G, Brets, High Elves (zero) and Dark Elves. I've heard from a few northern California players that they may start Chaos Dwarfs and I have a feeling that may grow once they see them at tournies. For the last 16 years or so Chaos Dwarfs have been reserved for us wierdos. :-) I have a feeling it's going to be a become a bit more mainstream over the next couple years.

Grimstonefire:

I’ve been convering some GW infernal arms using these guys (random pic off google)

The hands are about the right size and some of the weapons and heads are useful as well. The blades etc I’m scavenging from wherever I can (mostly chaos warrior and chaos knights).

unheilig:

No one ever answers the question about ranking up those forge world models.

Haha, mine do not rank up properly either.
I'm now trying to use some unitfillers to make it easier.

Those with Fireglaives rank up great...

DD

Bitterman:

I made my Infernals with sword and board rank up… but only with very, very, very, very great care. I assembled the first four with blu-tac, to position them so they ranked up on all four sides; then and only then did I glue them, then glued the rest in precisely the same position. The different weapons mean that occasional pairs don’t rank up front-to-back, but when I accidentally place them in that position it’s easily rectified just by swapping a couple of models, then the whole unit ranks up. It took a lot of care and effort… but it is possible!

The Fireglaives, though - not a chance. The front rank are fine, that’s easy; the second rank can’t possibly fit behind them… so I used a pin and resculpted the wrist holding the gun, with putty. Now they rank up perfectly, but it did take that extra sculpting step to do it; as provided, there’s no hope they’ll rank up. (Though it sounds like deadlydeceiver found a way!? I couldn’t, no matter what I tried!)

cornixt:

I believe it is tradition that chaos dwarf models can’t be ranked up easily. The metal axemen are the only ones that come close, all the others involve large amounts of adjustments and slightly tilted models.

Grimstonefire
How do the heads stack up the IG?

Grimstonefire:

The head on the far left of that pic is perfect with no conversion, needing only a bit of greenstuff on the neck join to stick it in.

The second rank, the head you can see with the tall spike is also virtually perfect.  It needs a bit of trimming around the back and little bit of greenstuff.

The others add variety, but aren’t that great.

Earlier I managed to base the first two of my IG. I face even bigger problems than all of you (afaik) as I’m having to rank them up to take both GW and HW & shield. I’m going to do them mostly 2 bases stuck together with one in each rank that’s one model stand alone.

Who the hell is Ben Curry?

Thommy H
He's a very high ranked tournie player involved with one of the popular warhammer podcasts (I forget which one. Podhammer? Heelanhammer?)

He is renowned for taking very hard army builds.

Ah, the AntiThommy.
