[Archive] Brother_cov;s premiere army blog!

brother_cov:

Hi all,

This is the blog covering the construction and development of my FIRST EVER Chaos Dwarf army!

Please let me warn you that I am no expert converter or even painter, I just love developing an army based around an idea and if I like the look of it, then Ill be happy…no entries for GH or GD Im afraid :frowning:

Plan:

The plan is to complete a 3000 pt army following the LoA rules hopefully over the next 3 months.

I dislike the big hat style CD so Im going to be basing my CDs around the FW Infernal Guard, however, I will be using the following miniatures as cheaper alternatives:

http://www.titanwargames.com/gallery

With a bit of tweaking I think they will look awesome (less monopose as the FW IG)

2 FW Iron Daemons (Cannonade and Skullcracker) as they are, just on scenic bases.

2 Magma Cannons - possibly using WHFB Dwarf Flame Cannons mounted in/on DoC Juggernauts (thanks for idea Kennyal).

Bull Centaurs using Beastmen Centigors (some converting here) maybe with WoC bits

K’Daai Fireborn using WE Treekin painted in a elemental fire type stylee

K’Daai Destroyer using LOTR Balrog - flame whip replaced by Soulgrinder sword and painted in an elemental fire style on scenic base.

2 Hellcannons as they are but mounted on scenic bases.

AoW Overlord model

Bale Taurus (FW) pretty much as is but on scenic base with / without Sorceror mounted.

So, as you see there is a lot of work to do, pretty much painting and scenic basing in a short space of time.

ill try to post some pics this evening of what I have so far.

many thanks for your anticipated support.

:cheers

Hehe how nice to see so many people using Bagg’s models. (Titan Wargames is runned by a member (Baggronor) of this forum, hence the reaction :))

Your list sounds interesting and I am curious to see what you will put up here!

gIL^:

Baggs minis are very nice and hes a nice guy to.

Really glad to hear that Baggronor (Baggs) is the genius behind the chosen CD minis and he's a member her, may have to pick his brains a bit ;)

the list is purely an amalgamation of all the units, minis and models that I like the sound of / love, I have no idea whether it will be competitive or fun to play.

It is purely a labour of love :cheers

Castellan:

Those are some very nice models. The paintjob is superb. Well done, welcome to the forums.

Borador:

Castellan, those are not his painted miniatures; Bagg had them painted by a pro. The link is reference material if I am correct.

brother_cov:

Due to the train delays yesterday (no surprise there) I did not get a chance to post any pics of WIP…apologies.

this evening I will be looking at what characters I have and what I can do with them.

I have the 3 metal Mantic Abyssal Dwarf characters and Im planning on using the sorceror model as an “as is” daemonsmith…no converting, just a paintjob, possibly a firey theme.

the Bull Centaur model I just love, so i will have to see how it scales up to the Centigor/BC conversions Im considering. It will be a crying shame not to use the model.

As for the AoW Overlord model…Im now thinking of using it as a Castellan BSB, so Ill be playing around with mounting banner poles (2) on his back, if it is possible. I was thinking of using the Mantic Abyssal Dwarf metal spiral/twisted standard poles as they look a bit more special. I will be trying out Norngahl’s (thanks) posted recipe for a bronze armour paint scheme to see how it looks.

watch this space :hat off

BeeZharr:

Looking forward to seeing your stuff. Can I ask, are you called brother_cov for geographical reasons?

BeeZharr
ha ha.....no, its a combination of "brother slaughterer" which is a Khorne Bezerker title and "Thomas Covenant" which is the name of a character in my favourite book.

thanks for asking though :cheers

brother_cov:

Pssssssst…got me filthy little mitts on a tasty Balrog…K’daai Destroyer anyone???

Good, I was High time we got another non big hat lover in our midst. and what a great choise in miniatures you have there (:

Good luck, i'm looking forward to the updates.

brother_cov:

Sorry for delays to posts.

Been working on characters for my army and initially Ill be using the Mantic Abyssal Dwarf characters and the AoW Overlord as my BSB:

Not sure about the banner poles attached to back of AoW Lord, too long?

Need to be shortened a tad?

Im using WE Treekinn as K’daai Fireborn.

Ive mounted them on 40mm bases and made a base using slate and PVA glue which Ill paint to look like lava.

The Treekin / Fireborn will be painted to represent beings composed purely of fire.

Bolg:

Interesting idea those treekin as Kadaai.

looking forward to the painted result.

DAGabriel:

Nice ideas, will start my blog with the league, since i am waiting for my first models.

Don`t know if they will arrive for the first team, but i fear i have enough stuff flying around to substitute.

See you there!

Thanks for that. Ive never painted fire before but will see how it goes.
Thinking of using a WE Treeman to represent a K'daai Manburner (?).

Currently assembling a LOTR Balrog to represent a K'daai Destroyer, once that is completed I will commence the painting.....fingers crossed it works ;)

brother_cov:

Hopefully going to start painting the Treekin / Fireborn models this evening.

I have never painted fire before but Ive been given, what looks like a thorough recipe for fire from a painter on Warseer, so I will see how it goes.

Also going to try and get hold of a WE Treeman to represent a K’daai Manburner, as well as some ork truk bits to add to the Dwarf Flame Cannon to represent a Magma Cannon (not sure if it will work)
