While painting I just asked myself: “what if CD wont be playable in 9th?” ?
The shortest answer might be to use them just as normal dwarves, but here was my question.
How much will it eventually possible to convert them from the normal dwarves boxes?
I’m one of those guys not able to sculpt, with GS I just fill the gaps, so eventually buying for example a gyrocopter, how hard would that be to convert it for the CD look?
I have no idea at all of what dwarves pay nor if they are a good gaming choice whatsoever.
Point is that, according to rumors, Dwarves won’t be part of 9th either. They will be featured in the generic “Humans” list, but they won’t be a standalone army anymore.
Usually the old books still works in a new edition. So 9’th shouldent be a problem. Big question will be 10’th edition.
Seems CD’s sold pretty well to, so there might be a rules update from forgeworld at somepoint also.
As long as you dont expect CD’s to be among the top lists you can prolly count on them being atleast playable at most events. Just consider how long they limped along without any support except the RH list. Fans will make it happen ^^
At this point keep calm and ignore the rumors. They are just that, rumors.

That's actually a very good point. I mean, we know that GW decided to revamp Warhammer because A ) it was selling poorly and B ) lots of cheaper rip-offs were available on the market. CDs are something completely unique, and if they label them "Dawi Zharr" then their IP will be totally safe. Add that apparently Warhammer Forge sold a fairly high number of CD miniatures, and there's a very good chance for us to make an appearance in 9th!
Heck, I would be content even if we stick with Forgeworld & the Legion of Azgorh rather than being handed over to GW. I could totally depict a story on the lines of:
"The whole Chaos Dwarf empire was swallowed by darkness, and disappeared in the horrific void of the Realm of Chaos... Only the Black Fortress was saved thanks to the machinations of Drazoath the exalted, Avatar of Hashut."
After what happens to them in ET: Archaon they wont be in 9th. Also since 9th is apparently a system reboot as well as a setting reboot none of the pre 9th armies will be playable.

Remove the runes and you are 90% of the way there. Add a few skulls, curly beards if you want, etc, and complete with a dark colour scheme.
I have no idea for certain if there will be a 9th edition or what it will mean for my warhammer play time. The one thing I do know is that Chaos is one of the only things that is unique to GW and it sells well so I expect it to be around as long as there is a GW.
I would rather play chaos dwarves as a Hordes of Chaos army. I like dwarfs, I have a large army of them, but you have two options in your list - infantry and war machines.
Chaos dwarfs allow you to play with some different flavors including great monster choices, monstrous cav, crazy chariot like steam trains as well as artillery. You can even have an army of predominately green skins if you like.
I can still use virtually all of my models as “counts as something or other” with the Hordes of Chaos list. Playing dwarves I would have to set aside half of my models and just use the infantry and cannons.
If you are OK with that, then I would say go for the conversions. I was able to convert some chaos dwarf infernal guard with great weapons from hammerers using head and weapons swaps and stylized bull head shoulder pads and chaos space marine shoulder pads. The only green stuff sculpting was the beards which is super easy.
Bull shoulder pads from puppetswar
Steam Knight Noble heads from Maxmini
Weapons made by adding spike bits to the standard hammer, and splicing chaos weapons bits.
As long as the models are easily recognised your opponent should be fine with it. I personally will use mine as dwarfs as it makes things much easier for.my.opponent to accept.

I think this sort of nails it. There are so many crazy rumours out there right now that it's pretty pointless to speculate.
If the game gets a radical revamp then the FW list might be invalidated, but I'm not sure everyone accepts that anyway (because it's FW and because it's OOP) - that won't necessarily be any worse than it was before FW came out.
Whatever happens, I suspect you'd be able to 'counts-as' some kind of Chaos or Dwarf army - or, failing that, keep playing 8th edition (which some groups may do, if the changes are drastic enough).
Using Chaos dwarfs as dwarfs is a small ask, Vast majority of Tournaments would allow this. As long as the models can be identified as what they are. Warriors, Ironbreakers etc.
Has anybody ever seen someone playing Chaos Dwarves as Dwarves in tournament ?
Or would you mind playing a Chaos Dwarf army that "count as" dwarves?
However, asking this to this community being CDs players it might bias the answer...
Asking this to Bugman's Brewery should make much more sense I guess !

My friend has an extensive collection of first addition chaos dwarfs, which he had prior to LoA and has played at tournaments using the Dwarf army book. He never liked the LoA rules. He prefers to play with at least 3 to 4 big blocks of infantry and the expense of the Infernal Guard makes this prohibitive. His army has been displayed on this forum though he isn't a member. Yes that is an ass cannon in the upper right hand corner.
Ofc I dont find it atm. but I seem to remember something about FW updating LoA for 9th.
Perhaps just like with the current FAQ, we should get a list of fixes done? Can’t spear-head this myself because of time but if we help them out we’d be better off in the end for sure.

They said they were going to wait and see what GW did with End Times and 9th and then make decisions. We played no part in End Times, though Zharr Naggrund was apparently destroyed by Grimgor and Golgfag in the BL novel Lord of the End Times (think its just a one paragraph mention). This doesn't mean CDs were wiped out as some have commented though, Zharr Naggrund was just our capital (LoA are from the Black Fortress iirc). Hopefully FW will restart Warhammer Forge to support 9th.

We will definitely do this. Putting together a list of questions made it easier for FW last time, I reckon they'd respond again in 9th.
Ok So I have read through this a bit and Honestly I have already taken this in to consideration when I started my Chaos Dwarf Project well over a year ago. I have found that it really wouldnt be to hard to convert some of the standard kits from the dwarf line to a Chaos Dwarf version. Between GW’s dwarf line as well as forgeworld you have a pretty solid starting point. then if you really want to get some nice standout CD feel for your standard dwarfs, look in to Titanforge. I have purchased some of there stuff when they were doing kickstarter and very impressed with both the metal beards and Son of Kashan-Vra lines. also if you are not a fan of trying to figure out how to convert a gyrocopter for CD’s Check out their Zepplin kits for the metal beards. you basically get 2 gyros for what you would pay for 1 at gw. just my 2 cents guys. hope it helps
