[Archive] CDO 5 years old already!?!?

Da Crusha:

wow, 5 years. I thought cdo was older. Ive been here for at least 3 years now. just checked, I joined in December 12 2008 at 1:48 AM. so 3 years 5 months. Yeah, when I joined I was under the impression that cdo had been running much longer.

Hashut’s Blessing:

I am one of the “oldies” - think I joined HoH around 2000, moved onto The Grand Alliance simultaneously and became mod, then we updated by moving to CDO (where I retained modship) and HoH died away.

I always forget how long CDO’s been about for

warh:

Awesome!

I’ve been here for three years.

GRNDL:

Yeah, you’re right, stick a fork in it, its done. :stuck_out_tongue:

Grimstonefire:

@HB

I didn’t realise HoH was running that long.

I think I joined there in about 2004.  Just after the legendary Hat/Mask Flame war, whenever that was (I missed out on all the fun).  Edit.  It was during SoC, whenever that was.

I joined the Grand Alliance as well, on the off chance it would be the new best thing.  Just Duckass, Zharkov and Beaver talking to each other mostly from what I remember.  I never liked the white writing on black there, but they did have awesome CD themed buttons, much nicer than we have here.

Willmark:

I don’t see medals happening for HoH. If anything this forum is a decendant of the Grand Alliance more then any other if for no other reason most of the initial staff at CDO was from Grand Alliance mod team

Obviously there is more to it then that but doesn’t need to be dragged up here.

brotsorrow:

Congratulations guys! 5 years is quite an achievement, especially with the constant stream of quality posts/threads. Cheers to all of you!

theforgefather:

congrats to all of you!

furrie:

Gratz everyone and indeed it feels like its alot older, when I joined in 2008 it already was a great library of knowledge. I hope this library will stay for many generations to come.

Kera foehunter:

Hey Don’t look at me !! He doesn’t have long enough hair for a Mohawk

Hey,:hat off Old one don't forget not to trip over your long old beard

The Besieger:

Big grats all

For many years its still the best Warhammer Fantasy Army forum.

A Forum with super ppl.

Borador:

Thanks to everyone for everything. Especially our team of mods and admins, but just as much to all of you. You guys run this community and make it one of the best places on the net to discuss and share things about our mutual interest.

rabotak:

happy birthday CDO, and a big :cheers to all of its members!

this is a great place to lurk, always a good, fun and informative read,

a place for stunning artwork and creativity, and one of the friendliest and most civilised forums around-

keep up the good work and supportive environment, and thanks for giving this and so many other lone CD-generals a home!

Thommy H:

Heh…I always forget how new CDO was when I joined. I remember in those days Hand of Hashut was still limping on, and CDO definitely appeared to be a kind of upstart forum. Even then though, it was clear which was the better community. Genuinely, it must be hard for newer members to understand what we came from, and how little there was for Chaos Dwarfs when all this started. I remember scouring eBay for deals, weighing up the pros and cons of getting into a bidding war over a few measly big hats. I remember jumping on any alternative manufacturer making “evil dwarves” of any variety, trying to decide whether they’d work with other Chaos Dwarf models. Look at us now: a whole army from Forge World, something I remember being one of the crazy rumours that was floated around back in the day, updated rules in a shiny book, and the exact models I was searching for five years ago from Titan Wargames.

And through all of it, this has remained the best Warhammer forum on the internet, bar none. Because we were all in it together, because the models and the rules were in such a nebulous state for so long, we’ve been free of most of the kinds of inane arguments that blight other places online. Yeah, there’s been some controversies along the way, but this is a remarkably unified, creative, supportive community of like-minded people. Long may it continue :cheers

Bolg:

Congrats guys! I hope to be around for the next five years, Cdo has been a great motivation for me to get deeper into the hobby.

Admiral:

Congratulations, you’ve made this one of the best hobby websites (or maybe the best), and so I hope it will remain. :cheers

Ghrask Dragh:

I look very fondley upon this site.

Having been a Chaos Dwarf fan for so long I remember being so chuffed when Uzkul Werit told me about these sites, I had never even been online much let alone posted on forums and talked to people from around the world before.

Without getting too over the top I really was coming out of a very bad (and lonely) place when I started painting again, which lead to me meeting people like Uzkul, which lead me to these sites. It was so refreshing to get to talk to people and interact in a way that I hadn’t for a long time. To find that people actually liked the same stuff and the stuff I was doing was even better. Reading this thread has reminded me of how much life has changed in the last 5 years (:cheers Grim’) and how positive it’s all been. Personally, coming from that lonely place to having the friends and more importanly family I now have to Chaos Dwarfs and having an army list AND miniatures from GW was a far far cry from reality, how things change

This is the site for me, although I don’t post as much as I would like to I always check in. Much Kudos to Xander for getting this all up and running :hat off and to the admins and mods that keep it running since he checked out a bit too :hat off

:cheers all

Hashut’s Blessing:

Thanks Kera, but when you can’t find your legs for beard, you don’t trip anyway. It has been woven into runes of flight to allow me to hover on my magic facial carpet.

Going to the link at tGA amuses me - one mod and it was me  Always a mod and never the admin :stuck_out_tongue:
