[Archive] Chaos Dwarf Stompa

Murdock129:

I’ve been looking at the Ork Stompa in 40K, I love this enormous model, it’s one of the most amazing models and I’ve wanted to make one for ages.

Now, I’ve seen Killa Kans and even one or two ork Dreadnoughts as K’Daii or Inferno Golems, but is there a place in a Chaos Dwarf force for a Stompa?

Since 40K orks are so low tech, and CDs so high tech, I can see them creating something like that.

What do you think?

Thommy H:

It’d make a nice K’daai with the Dark Colossus upgrade from Monstrous Arcanum. I’m not sure it would fit in that well with the general aesthetic without some quite heavy conversion work though - the Stompa is just nailed together out of bits of scrap, after all.

Murdock129:

Could it not be a Hobgoblin creation?

Perhaps the chaos dwarf engineers saw the hobgoblin’s mechanical ingenuity and threw them the chaos dwarf’s scrapheap as an experiment and this comes out of it, with the engineers touching it up so it properly works?

I love Stompas, but can’t see any army besides CDs having something like this. (And TBH, I don’t really play 40K but would love to have one in my games)

The steam towers round the back, the gun and the giant chainsaw seem like something that Hobgoblins and Chaos Dwarfs could come up with together, while the body is very orcish, but the engines to make it work would be Chaos Dwarfish/Daemonic

AGPO:

I can’t see the hobgoblins coming up with something like this. A working machine the size of the stompa would be the greatest mechanical creation in the whole Warhammer world. As Thommy has said the aesthetics would be an issue. You could have it as the work of an utterly deranged daemonsmith. As he is in disgrace he only has access to whatever scrap parts his hobgoblin slaves can filtch.

Loki:

I think it can certinaly work i have an ork dreadnought in my CD army as a K’daai, i think replacing the head with a massive bulls head and giant rune of hashut on the front and your well away , look forward to seeing what you come up with

Murdock129:

Thanks, I love Agpo’s idea of a crazed Daemonsmith making this from all the leftover bits the hobgobbos could steal

And thanks for the suggestions Loki, the rune should be able to be done, the bulls head, well I’ll freely admit I’m no good at converting

I also need to think up rules for this, though I’m not good at that either lol If anyone wants to help with this Id appreciate it, I’d make something too indestructible, while still being the supreme mechanical terror of the old world, The Walking Tower of Zharth-Kharzhakh, created by insane Daemonsmith Mardrakk Stoneheart

Thommy H:

You could build it with the Infernal Engine entry in my book.

Naagruz:

Given the steampunkiness of Warhammer, it’s not too far a stretch.

I wouldn’t bother with the actual Stompa kit though, as you would need to really rework it to avoid looking cheesy. Something closer to the Kev Adams Runtbot design might work, just bigger of course.

Foam core with P-card skin, bits, and you’re almost there.

Thorne:

As has been said before. I’d avoid the gw kit and take a look at the old armourcast models for some inspiration. You never know I recall gargants made with plant pots that put the new gw model to shame.

Murdock129:

Yeah, I’d really love that, the issue is I’m totally (Insert four letter word of your choice that is probably against forum rules here) at converting or scratch building model, the only one I’ve ever done well is a nurgle slug, and that was just a lump of clay

Abecedar:

My last encounter with a “Stompa” didn’t go well. Whilst talking with a staffer I cracked a knuckle into the corner of a metal bench and in recoiling I elbowed it off the table behind me at GW Parramatta last month. I can still see the arcs of the various pieces going in different directions after it hit the floor.
