[Archive] Chaos dwarfs for 7th ed ideas

Idares:

So my friends and I are playing 7th ed since the tradgic death of Fantasy.

I’d like to play Chaos dwarfs, but the rules I like best are the ones in Turmakahn: Throne of Chaos, an 8th ed forgeworld book.

I would like to house rule some of the book’s rules to make it more 7th ed friendly. Here are some points I have considered:

-Is a fighty hero LD9, Infernal Castellan, that inherently has stubborn for almost 170% the cost of a Thane, too OP for 7th ed? In 8th ed stubborn isnt that bad due to steadfast being everywhere.

-The Iron deamon war engine can be upgraded to T8 W8. Now in 7th T8 was not a seen stat, but it become common in 8th ed. I believe one should just lower these stats by one, so the beast will have only S7 T7 W7 fully upgraded. It costs a little more than a Steam Tank, but only has a stomp attack and AS3+. It might not dimish in strenght as it takes wounds but it doesnt do as damage as a STank can.

-The mount for Lord is bit of an issue. Issue is it costs just n litte bit more than a Manticore, but does so much more and can be healed… what would you pay for it? It doesnt use a hero slot, but looking at 7th ed monster mounts it should. It seems beter than some dragons even.

If anyone notices any other issues with the book please lets discuss it.

cornixt:

The rules are written such that they were probably written for 7th edition but came out late enough for 8th. Stubborn was quite common for Dwarfs in 7th. Several of the units are a bit pricey compared to equivalent units in other armies, but it balances out for the most part as long as you aren’t min/maxing. Change nothing for now, see if they are overpowered in how you play them and make adjustments afterwards.

Tarmarkahn was developed for 7th edition. That;s why the army feels so odd.

Idares
"Too OP"? No, nearly twice the price for a bit better is not "too OP".

I suggest you play a few games with the ID (generally agreed to be almost completely useless, especially the Skullcracker variant) before deciding to nerf it. Seriously, it might have an extremely high Toughness, but that just means it does nothing for longer.

By 7th Ed guidelines, it should probably use an extra Hero slot, yes. I've not really given any thought to adjusting its points beyond that.

tell the truth. Try 9th age, it’s just amazing. If your into fantasy that’s where you need to be.

Tight rules, Chaos Dwarfs got a huge buff and an overall balanced game.

Plus Chaos dwarfs can take orcs !!!

I’d have to agree right now,

If I wasn’t trying out 9th Age, I’d be back playing either 8th (Checkers) or 7th (Chess) editions of WHFB. Not to sound like a conspiracy nut, but I’ve been watching 40K influences edge their way into the fantasy game for a while. Maybe GW was trying to make or combine into ONE game?

End result, AoS? Or close to the end!
