Forget speculating on land futures, oil futures, this years bumper crop of iPods or oil. Speculating on prices of these things can be a full time job easy. What with how many having been popping up on vultureBay…
$550 US easily.

erm is it me or did it just go for £310.00, wow thats a lot of money
Willmark:
No. You saw that correctly. I’m wondering just how many of these unreleased models were actually made? I’m guessing that there can’t be too many of these things in existence…

I'm guessing that there can't be too many of these things in existence...Its called unreleased by gw, but it actually made it onto a flyer, and was briefly available before being pulled. There were probably at least a couple hundred, so it is really much more "limited release"

Maybe he already has the third crewman in his collection.
Maybe he has a much higher disposable income than the rest of us.
The thing didn’t go for as much as a Forge World Thunderhawk, and I know I’d buy one of their transporter thunderhawks if I was working at a better job than the one I’m at right now. I’d buy one for my friend too.
I don’t think anyone here has the right to say the guys spending their own hard-earned cash on these extremely rare pieces are idiots.

the first one on the thread went for about £260.00 and that was complete
could have got this of ebay and still had money for fish and chips and bus home

It was for Chaos, when CDs were part of the army. There were no new CD models made for it, they sold it with the mortar crew and one of the normal foot models. It was never properly released, the few they made were just sold off by mail order when GW closed down the Chronicle miniatures division that they had bought out:hat off actually the story is different :) the sculptor made the model resembling his boss face..... when it was discovered they pulled it from the market. Seems there are about 200 out there more or less. Later in time a few cast in white metal went to some people out of the GW casts (Recast but still original) I know the story since I got two :~ on eis lead and one is white metal. I know for sure the white metal is original since it came directly from the old Armorcast or Epicst can't remember owner hands. I believe a few years after a few key persons got a copy recasted from the forges.

Maybe he already has the third crewman in his collection.I fully agree on your words. Some times I spend fortunes for single pieces just because I am a damn collector :( believe me if I didn't have my cannon to complete the army and had that extra cash probably one of the high bidders was going to be me :)

There must be plenty of people not interested in our hobby who think just being interested in these figures is madness in the first place. In other words, they have much the same opinion of me as I might have of people who collect barbed wire. [Yes, it's a real hobby: http://www.barbwiremuseum.com/ but no, I don't knock the people who do it just because I don't appreciate their collecting fetish. I have several hundred unpainted toy soldiers mocking me from their boxes behind me...]

And you say this is sad pricing.... have you seen the Citadel Chicken Dragon go for 2000GBP and the giant for 800GBP mint in box? I know who bought the giant he he we are still teasing him since he is afraid to open the sealed box and find dust in it ha haOh man! This is where I have to disagree with the collectors who are serious about buying sealed boxes like that. How can you tell the piece hasn't succumbed to lead rot? What if you open and find pieces missing or miscast? It's not like GW will send you replacements...

Lets me point out a few things here because people on both sides of this discussion seem to be missing a few key points.
For everyone involved in this discussion-
This is the Internet. You can say what you want when you want. With that being said its important to remember that what you say can come back to haunt you and just because you can say something doesn?Tt mean you should.
If someone wants to call someone an idiot that is their right as well; whether or not it is true or even a smart thing to do is irrelevant. Fact of the matter is if someone wants to spend $700-800 dollars on something they consider valuable, then have at it. But, by the same token if someone else doesn?Tt perceive the value of what one is willing to spend said hard earned cash on then be prepared to suffer the ?oslings and arrows? of someone?Ts discontent/dislike.
Point is the world isnt black or white, its shades of gray and people are going to have points and counter points that you agree or don?Tt. How you chose to vocalize that is the key.
Also: No one should confuse this site with free speech. This is Xander?Ts sandbox. We all ?oplay? here by his leave. It?Ts his space because he pays for it, thus his rules. Knowing Xander well enough (I think) I doubt this is an issue, but a point to clarify.
Perv:
Also its not like they have just offered that much money for it. They have put a bid in and other people have raised the bid to that price as they are prepared to pay that much too. If there wasnt so many people willing to pay that much it wouldnt go that high but theres been 3 on there all going for £200+ so its not a freak sale, its a consistent price.
I know Kev (Stunties) and he is a very shrewd buyer and rarely pays over the odds for figures. He has so much knowledge of Dwarfs that if he thinks its worth that much hes usually right.
I was shocked the amount people pay for some figures at first but think of it in an arty way. How much will a decent painting or a sculpture go for? The price is purely in the eye of the beholder. When theres so few of certain figures then you can understand the attraction, coupled with a collectors NEED for all the range, this leads to high demand and high prices.
I thought there were crazy people bidding on things at first but then someone explained to me its hard to put a price on art and that makes it more uinderstandable IMHO
Willmark:
Actually this IS somthing that in all honesty go for a fair amount of cash. I don’t nessicarily object to it. The objections I think people have is the carry over effect this has to the rest of the CD market on vultureBay.

Willmark:
Steve I think you and I are of the same opinion on this, its all relative.
Xander:
Rare things are rare for a reason, I guess. But I doubt Pyro was very serious in his allegation. It seemed to be more of an off-hand comment.

Anyway, enough of that. My point was that all the other siege cannons on ebay recently have gone for a price that you could say reflects their value depending on what parts are missing etc. But this one went for more than the other two that have been on and its got less parts than the others.Really the missing parts are not important as they are for the most part readily available if the gun is all there.
