[Archive] Community Awards - 2010(1)

Yes, its that time again. What time I hear you ask? Well I’m glad you asked (or even if you didn’t)  It’s time to round up everyone and reflect on the year just past and recognize the achievements of those on the site for an outstanding 2010.

For those newer folks every year around this time we put together a thread to nominate those who really shinned in the year just past. This is perhaps one of the most coveted medals that one can win as it is voted entirely by your peers based on your conduct on the site.

So with all this now is the time to get your nominations in.  REMEMBER: this is only for achievements in the year 2010.  Anything that has been achieved in years past other than 2010 is not counted for nominations.

The categories for 2010 are unchanged from previous years and are as follows:

Best Attitude - A member should be nominated on their forum presence and behavior toward other members, displaying exemplary attitudes of kindness and encouragement.

Best General - This member is always ready to give advice on army lists, has very good lists of his own, and perhaps has won a tournament or two using his Chaos Dwarf army.

Best Hobbyist -A nominee for this award has contributed an amazing model, or models that exemplifies what a Chaos Dwarf army should look like: flawless execution of conversion and painting while adhering to the Chaos Dwarf mythos.

Best Contributor - This award will go the member that has contributed most to the cause of the Chaos Dwarfs.  He or she has done or made something that has profoundly benefited the presence of Chaos Dwarfs as a whole!

Best Overall Member - This member may not be the best hobbyist, might not ever win a tournament, but he or she has a great presence on the site, the forum, the wiki, the chat and whatever else!  They are dedicated to the cause of the Chaos Dwarfs!

What to nominate for?

I encourage you to supply the reason for your nominations, as it will be interesting to put some of them in the Word of Hashut.  If you can’t think of who to nominate for a category, do some research.  If you don’t know who the best general should be for example, take a look at the Gaming section of the forum. Who’s been posting battle reports, tactic and helping others with army lists? These should help you come up with a nominee.

How to Nominate

PM your nominations to Staff (a special user that all Staff have access to).

NOTE: You can only nominate one person per category. If you can’t decide which one, flip a coin!

Nominations should include this:

Award Name

Member Name

The contribution that should be recognized and why they shouldbe recognized.

As in 2010 the nominations will be tallied and ranked.  The top 3 members for each category will then be sent a pm asking them to accept or reject their nomination by a certain deadline yet to be determined. If they accept they will then become an official nominee.

If a member rejects the nomination it will be offered to the person with the 4th highest votes, and so on.  This may mean that if a lot of people reject nominations, or there are not enough people nominated in a category there may only be 1 or 2 people to vote for (or potentially none).

If a person does not reply to the pm we will work on the assumption that they want it and it will automatically be accepted.

We will not tell people how many other nominees there are.

The final nominees’ names will then be prepared in separate polls for all to vote on beginning 12th February.  After this there will be a 2 week public poll to decide the winners.

The deadline for sending in nominations is 11:59  EST (eastern standard time) January 31st, 2011.

Exempt Members

Note that any members with warnings outstanding will not be given the opportunity to accept a nomination. We will not discuss any of this with the community at large as this is only pertinent to the Staff and the member(s) in question.

The Staff CAN be nominated, HOWEVER, they must not be nominated for their staff-related duties.  For example, Willmark could be nominated for his work on the Webzine, but not for being excellent at moderating the forums.  This way we are all on fair ground.  We are dealing with what we offer the forum as members, not as staffers.

If you have any questions, just ask any of the Staffers!  Send your nominations in as soon as you can!

Thanks for getting the ball rolling!! Now we all just have to kick ourselves in the pants to put in the effort to make the nominations!!

Yes we set it with a little over a week for nominations in order to ahem, encourage everyone to get back to us in a timely fashion.

It sure is that time of year  PM’ed my nominations. Never an easy job, and hopefully others will nominated the guys I couldn’t!

May I come up with a suggestion? Sum up the reasoning for the nominations - when making the voting thread. Not everybody comes everywhere, and reads everything - so stating the reasons would be a nice gesture to the people nominated - and a great help when placing you vote.

I’m going to have to put some real thought into this, normally I keep track of things during the year and have someone in mind, but this year I sort of forgot and left it…

The nominations are in…

All done, once agian lots of hard choices to be be made best of luck to every one

Sent in my nominations (except for best general, I really don’t know who to pick there, I am more into converting and painting then into the wargaming haha).

Good luck to all, may the best Dawi’Zharr win!

Just a reminder for people here, if you can only think of people for a few categories (or even 1) you can just nominate them for that.  It’s ok to just get some in if you can’t think of people for all 5 categories.

Ideally people will nominate for all categories.

I managed to do 4 out of 5.

This is a cool idea, missed the nominating last year.

Thinking hat on.

I here by nominate myself for “That guy who stays with us and checks the site out every now and agin”

Cool contest, as usual, good luck everyone!

My nominations are made! :hat off

I’m very eager to know who is nominated!

C’mon everyone get your nominations in. Let your voice be heard, plus it allows me to save my Sith Powers and not have to force choke the members of the site.

Well, like we always discuss - how is the best way to announce these things? Fine doing it here and on the main - but hardly the most visited places here

How about a spam mail/spam PM to plug this a bit?

Still think it would be a good idea having a big flashy news bulletin board of some kind on the forum index page, though.

Isn't that what this "Website News" forum is?

Probably is, but only for people that pro-actively goes there. Like others have - I’d really like to see a flashy bulletin banner on the main index site that highlight the ‘site news’.

Thommy H:

Anything posted in this forum already appears on the main site…

EDIT: I thought it did anyway - apparently it’s only selected things. Either way, if you don’t notice the giant blue “new posts” icon in the Website News forum at the very top of the page, I don’t know why you’d notice a banner either.

I can’t help but think that these kinds of things would work great to announce of the Chaos Dwarf Radio podcast.

I’ve decided to take everything I was going to say next and post a new thread as it’s going way off topic…

If I can get to it tonight I’ll send out a site wide PM, thanks for the reminder Clam.

Strange, the ‘notification’ I got had no title/subject and no text or link to any PM - just an empty mail. If I didn’t knew I would probably not go checking my PMs. Is that a general problem with site wide PMs - or is it just me?
