Thank you all very very much for voting for me, it’s a great honor and recognition, means alot. There couldn’t be a better result than sharing this medal with Bloodbeard who teached me how to play and who’s been working hard to give the community great reports during the whole of 2014.
I’m quite happy to see that most of my nominations and votes made it
And my sincere thanks to everybody who took the time and effort to nominate/vote for me as well, thank you!
And I must say…looking at these Community Awards winners as well as the last Scribes Contest winners (and with myself being the sole exception), the Scandinavia Vikings have been quite successful in their raids :cheers

I love you guys. Nice to see some Norwegians, Swedes and Danes around but where are the Finnish? Do we have any members from Finland? Can't remember one at the moment.
Herby
There are some Fins around - not that active though.

I believe there where viking settlements in finland but the finnish people is said by some to decend from Gengis Khan. When reading up on the subject is says vikings traded with the fins, where there finnish vikings?
Finns are a Finno-Ugrian people, with their own distinct language family. Cousins to them exists in the Baltic States, Hungary and close to the Urals in Russia. Vikings were Norse raiders, warriors and pirates, and some Swedish Vikings attacked Finland but mainly stayed away from it. The Finns were known to be fierce warriors, and in their sparsely populated and heavily forested land with many lakes, they preserved their old Pagan myths without blinking when adopting Christianity. The common Finnish swearword “Perkele” is actually the name of their old thunder god (Perkunas to the Lithuanians). No relation to Djingis Khan (the Mongols reached Novgorod and Lithuania, but not Finland), though some very ancient ancestry might link them to peoples inhabiting Mongolia and Siberia IIRC.
There were no Finnish Vikings which we know of, though it is possible some Finns tugged along as mercenaries and adventurers on eastward Swedish Viking voyages. Finland became the eastern part of Sweden starting with the crusades/conquests in the 12th century. Despite an unusually high rate of knife murders in Finland, Finns are regarded as a brother people by Swedes, just as Danes and Norwegieans are, and that’s why you’ll see a lot of hearty sibling bickering between people from the Nordic countries.
Come to think of it, Danish is about as unintelligible to Swedes as Finnish is, so language barriers hasn’t been a barrier to brotherhood.
I wish there were more active Finns here, that would complete the Nordic takeover of the forums.
