Now, I am very picky when it comes to my models. My very strong preference is for brand spanking new stuff. Unboxed is ok as long as everything is there and in good condition. Off sprue is ok as long as everything is there and not broken. Metals can be lightly undercoated or painted (i.e. easy to strip) but not plastics. Bases are not strictly necessary.
