[Archive] Crucium's Fallen Dwarves

Crucium Giger:

Well I’m a little late in the day for starting this blog as I’m already well under-way with my Fallen Dwarf force (who’s main use will be in Lotr, both the SBG and large scales though this is with Mantic’s KOW rules, and with the newly acquired 7th Voyage from Crooked Dice).  Due to this the first post is going to be quite image heavy as I play catch up but there will be WIP pictures at the end (so sorry for the multiple posts).

Now on to the photos, first up the initial WIP:

Now for some finished shots:

Some scale comparison shots:

All the infantry done:

A wee beasty for some added punch (credit for this, both sculpt and painting, goes to Shadow & Flame www.shadowandflame.co.uk):

Admiral:

They look nice! That fire and lava is really good.

Kudos for using Fallen Dwarves for Lotr. How did you make the bases? They look like “drill-sawed” pieces of thick masonite.

Crucium Giger:

Now for the crossbow WIP photos:

Crossbows finished:

A Dweller for yet more monster support:

Crucium Giger:

Now for the army shots:

And at last here are the current WIP photos, the new leader and Dragon Fire models for the Fallen Dwarves which will be available soon from Miniatures of the North:

Thanks but the praise for the big fella goes to Shadow & Flame who I commissioned to sculpt and paint him (and I couldn't recommend them enough).
The bases are just MDF with the standard sand topping (a mix of very fine and coarse, about 25/75 ratio).

Crucium Giger:

Finally the WIP shots which take you up to last night:

Again apologies for the deluge of photos but I’ll be keeping this blog up to date now with all my new Fallen Dwarf purchases of which there are still quite a few to go. On top of this I have a Abyssal Dwarf army from Mantic which I’ll be getting to at a later date so that will make an appearance in due time.

Admiral:

Okey, the sight of the big one made me miss the text bit.

Promising progress. This is good stuff! Have you considered going that extra length to add strings and bolts to the crossbowdwarfs?

You could post this army over on Last Alliance as well if you haven’t already done so.

Looks great!

Crucium Giger:

Thanks guys, I’ve not posted on Last Alliance so will have a look over there (my main LOTR site is One Ring, which is where all my WIP photos etc are).

Yodrin:

A lot of cool stuff here, great work!

MORDWARF!

Fuggit Khan:

Beautiful miniatures…nice paint jobs and I really like your bases.

I’ve seen these Fallen Dwarf mini’s before on the web, and I really liked them…but now that I see them all painted up, I love them. Well done!

Just my opinion, but I think these are way better models than the FW sculpts.

Crucium Giger:

Cheers guys,

Tonight’s progress, really cracking on with these now and I’ve managed to get the base coats on the bases now.  I don’t think I’ve painted this quickly before but the sculpts are just a joy to work on, any way on to the pictures:

As you can see the two sorcerers have been finished off now so here’s a close up of them:

I’m hoping the next update will be of the completed minis but that won’t be until at least Sunday as we have a day of gaming planned for Saturday.

Bloodbeard:

That’s some freaking cool models, first time I see them around here. Only seen some WIPs of the hero type. Are they all availble from Miniatures of the North? Couldn’t really find anything on the companys blog site.

Great army. Good painting and nice dark colours. A like the gritty realism.

The tiger pelt brings a good contrast and make the leader stand out in a simple but great way. I wouldn’t have thought of something like that. I would just have ended up painting the pelt grey or something.

Do you, and if how, use them in warhammer games?

Yodrin:

Again, awesome work!! Great models and colors on them, and the paint job is really sweet!!!

Crucium Giger:

Thanks guys

These minis aren’t released yet but keep an eye on the MOTN blog as they’ll be available soon through him directly (the troops are cast and sold by Anvil Industries).

I must dmit the ins

Crucium Giger:

I have just completed the last touches to the Fallen Dwarf leaders and Dragon Fire team this evening, they have been a pleasure to work on so hats off to Miniatures Of The North.

Now on to the (many) pictures:

And now all together and an army shot:

Yodrin:

Great colors and a great paint job! Keep em comin!

Skink:

There is no such thing as too many pictures for well painted miniatures. Boy these guys look so damn good. I love everything about them, the miniatures, the color scheme, the basing. Your metals are especially good, they are very much alike the armors worn by the evil guys in the movies.
