What does everybody think about the deathrocket in 8th edition? Back in 7th I’d normally leave it at home and opt to use bolt throwers instead however with the new rules and all it seems like a more worthwhile option :o

Do you mean the RH, the indy GT version or a homebrew one ? During my last battle the indy GT version preformed good enough to give it asnother try.
Bolg:
If you cant bring 2 earthshakers (tournament rule: no double rare or similar) I would most defiantly bring a deathrocket along. S9 D6 wounds is scary against big targets and as a template weapon it works against lo toughness troops
Da Crusha:
I have found myself bring it more often in 8th not because I don’t have to guess the range any more or no partials, but because the bolt thrower got worse, no longer getting plus 1 to hit large targets and only having 2 wounds. the death rocket in 8th edition has been … ok. the biggest draw back is that Strength 3 hits no longer ignore armour save, also the misfire chart for cannons got worse.
Im taking about the RH list by the way
macbeth:
I love Death Rockets! I’ve mostly used them in 7th edition (I had 3 of them), and even though I have only played one CD game in eigth (attention taken by my High Elves and my Vampires while waiting for Warhammer Forge stuff to come out), I wiould never leave without a couple of ones.
Bolt throwers are useful, but they do not fulfill the same roles, and considering the boost that rock throwers have received in the 8th edition, I think they are a great bargain, especially considering the few special choices that we have in the RH list…
Redhammer:
I think death rockets are very viable in 8th. They are very cheap for what they are, and no more partials means the death rocket can multitask between targeting big beasts and targeting blocks. The built in misfire protection that they offer with the crazy scatter instead is very much worth it!

I think all is said here :

the biggest draw back is that Strength 3 hits no longer ignore armour save, also the misfire chart for cannons got worse.Better in 8th than in 7th because you can play it (when you played BT instead in 7th). Very scary against big targets : monsters and chariots.
