Does anyone have separate insurance for their model collections, or include them as a listed item on their house insurance?
I saw a topic on the Warhammer forum, about a chap who had a house fire (I have heard about unfortunate incidents like this a few times before too) and that got me thinking. I have considered doing this in the past, but I have never actually got around to doing it, and I just wondered what everyone else did.
Well, I do my contents insurance online and it’s for only one room at university. It only let’s me specify items that are individually worth more than £100 or something, the rest I just have to add into the amount… But, I do include them.
Though I once flew to Scotland with my army and realised the value of the miniatures were much higher than the “standard luggage value” so I paid a bit extra.
maybe once my collection is finished and all painted up ill consider insuring them if i have the money and if i tihnk ill be holding onto them for a long time. For people who have spent thousands its probably a good idea.
I paid extra insurance when i shipped them long distance. I don’t have them specified on my house insurance. Probably a good idea to take them all out the boxes and photo them in my house as further proof that I own them. I did that with all my CDs (compact disks!) once, since they were several thousands worth.
The fact that so many are special editions shows how they aren’t actually worth that much more than the regular one. Mine are only really worth more to me if they have hard-to-find tracks on them. So many have the special edition label because they have one extra (and usually a b-side from a single) track so that people will want to be that version rather than cheaper imports.
It’s worth photographing anything of value. But especially CD models we haven’t seen on here yet.
My insurance company told me that I could include my figures as part of my home and contents insurance if I could get a professional valuation done on what they were worth (which as it turns out is pretty much impossible).
On my home owners Insurance I keep extra coverage for collectables up to 30K. Last time I took a total inventory that should cover my collection at a retail value. You can’t really put a value on your time though.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Couldnt GW give a professional valuation? What is your insurance companies definition of a professional. Maybe one of the big ebay sellers could give you a valuation.

I missed some words out:

Some CDs you can only buy the special edition. Special compared to what?
