So what do people think of the season premier? Definitely a ‘Holy ****!’ episode. Not a spectacular episode, but full of wham moments, especially the end of the teaser and end of the episode itself. Hopefully the payoff in pt2 will be worth it.
Tonight’s episode was pretty much like last week’s; not amazing, but not bad either, although I did notice one major gaff - towards the end the Daleks are talked about as if they’re the travel machine rather than the blob inside it.
Also, there was an off hand comment that could be taken to imply that the Master was the mother of the Doctor’s daughter. Not definitively though as the sentence wasn’t completed and doesn’t specifically state that that is the case.
So what do people think of the sonic sunglasses so far? Do you think them cool, or do you think that combined with the tank riding and guitar playing makes it look like he’s having a mid life crisis? Or combined with the fourth wall breaking as well that dementia is setting in
I’m real old school orientated about the sonic screwdriver, Guess Ill have to accept it, but it just doesn’t have the same impact. Pointing your glasses at a locked door? Nah.
Someone told me that he actually plays the guitar and who am I to begrudge someone a mid-life crisis
I really don’t like the glasses - the screwdriver was cool, the glasses are naff. I’ve heard one argument that it’s because the screwdriver was getting overused, but I don’t see that as a good argument as so far it isn’t getting used any less; if they were concerned about its over use then they should either have had him go hands free like the Fifth Doctor or come up with some reason for it to lose functionality/limit what it can do. I think I could accept the glasses if they were part of a range of gadgets he had and were limited to scanning and the like while other ones did other things, but as a wholesale replacement for the screwdriver they suck.
Apparently the reason the Doctor plays the guitar now is because Peter Capaldi is an ex-punk rocker so they’re just pandering to his likes. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s execution just comes off as awkward and, for me at least, ended up ruining the opening theme for last episode by replacing the standard theme with a rock version which sounded horrible.
