[Archive] Does anyone make big hats

Zanthrax:

Does anyone know of any companies that make big hats for conversions?

I was hoping to take some avatars if war berserkers and convert them but rathe than rely on my feeble sculpting skills was wondering if anyone makes any.

Cheers

rpitts2004:

I don’t think any places make them you’d have to sculpt them yourselt and then cast them.

Ugly Green Trog:

There certainly seems to be a hole in the market for a talented sculptor!

Grimstonefire:

If someone wanted to pay me a decent rate I would be happy to sell my greens to someone who wanted to cast them for sale.

I’ve completed 2, a 3rd is nearly done with another 2 started. Sculpted to fit the neck join of the models from a certain Forge.

If anyone is seriously interested in buying them (and not just seeing them), send me a pm and I’ll take some pics over the weekend. Otherwise I will be completing then when I can and deciding how best to proceed before showing pics of casts.

flashgordon:

id buy a tonne if someone sculpted some that by mere coinky-dink fit on gw dwarfs

rpitts2004:

There we go grim offered his greens for someone to cast them!

cornixt:

You could find beads at a bead store and just fill in the gap between the bead and head. Not much sculpting expertise required there.

delivern:

I made all of mine using a friends suggestion…“cut off the tops of their heads and use push pins”

Da Crusha:

Ive only made one hat for blood bowl but I used coolminiornot’s instant mold and made a mold of a big hat. the cast came out great.

flashgordon:

i originally did pin hats, but to look like the old big hats you need to sculpt so much, and i no sculpter

Rickie:

Ive been using golf pegs, a friend also sugested chess pieces.

Zanthrax:

I am also trying the instant mold but would be great to see this niche market open up.

I reckon the infernal guard minis are just screaming for big hats!

I would like to see the pic's

Thorne:

So let me get this straight. If I were to make big hat style items out of resin people would actually buy them ?

flashgordon:

yes, so long as they were practicle, the kind that would fit gw dwarfs are the most cost effective, the fw upgrades are still cost £36+p&p for 10 men+big hat upgrades, too much for me.

fairoaks024:

i’d definitely buy them for one!

jim

Hashut’s Blessing:

Don’t forget that Mantic are quite popular as well, especially being cheaper - big hats on those would help to reduce the crunched look to them and being cheaper models to buy to begin with means people will be more prepared to buy the conversion kit as well

flashgordon:

id prefer gw so i could take them to tounaments still as they are just converted gw models, mantic stops that

Thorne:

Okay sculpted big hat heads are on my radar now. Now I have to ask this but are we talking retro style big noses and curly beards big hats with masks and shaggy beards newer titan wargames style warhammer forge rip off infernal guard style heads ?

Rickie:

Big hats, big nose tusks and curley beards with giant mustach for me. And yes if something like that poped up I am a potential buyer.

Other things that would sell are probably a BSB in the retro style since you have to convert that your self.

Not sure when it comes to retro looking hobgoblins, but I would be intrested in that as well.
