Today I spoke with an independent sculpter regarding a potential new miniatures wargame he is intending to produce in the future, he told me the following:
If you talk to someone who is in anger that the rumored changes in WHFB9 will kill square based wargaming, tell them that you heard rumors of a new game coming out, possibly with an early 2016 kickstarter. A square based regimental game that will focus on unit synergies and chains of command to simulate the feeling of being the general of a mighty battle unlike warhammer with insane magic and crazy powerful monsters and characters.
A game set not in a traditional fantasy universe, but in a pseudo-historical world with heavy influences from real life unexplained events and great historical mysteries.
Magic is merely a term for science unknown to some cultures, and the setting will be like if you are far enough out into the unexplained and conspiracy theories, it could almost be considered realistic.
Oh, and it revolves around an alien invasion during a zombie apocalypse in Renaissance Europe.
He has asked me not to currently release too many specific details nor his identity due to some business that needs to be fully finished with involving past work, but he assures me that’s being concluded soon.
I understand I am being rather vague, and I apologize for this, but I can only say so much at present. He has given me a run down of the fluff, but until his business is complete I cannot give details beyond vague assertions, such as there being a conspiracy theory vibe to the fluff and it builds a very dark and grim reality.
I can also say I’e seen initial model sculpts and they are gorgeous. I’ll post pictures when I can.
Races included at this time are the Ithilids (the aliens mentioned above), The Human Republic of Eurasia, Orcs (who are extremely different to traditional orcs, Sasquatches, a race known as Nighonians who I will not say too much about and another race known as the Annunaki, again who I will refrain from giving too much away about
These “early rumours” are so early, I’m not technically sure they count as “rumours”. Maybe your friend should wait to see what actually happens with Warhammer before he tries to trade on anger over the change in bases.
If you talk to someone who is in anger that the rumored changes in WHFB9 will kill square based wargaming.
Besides the square based regiment army fantasy wargame Kings of War coming soon in 2nd edition.
The midieval crusades regiment square bases gaming of Deus Vult. Every and all Warlord Games system ranging from square based models fighting in regiments from Ancient Greece to the late 18th hundred.
But besides that square based wargaming with regiments is pretty dead. :P
Thanks for sharing. ... But there really isn't anything in that. A hypothetical kickstarter in 2016. Kickstarter projects themselves are pretty hypothetical until founded.

It is if you live in the GW bubble :P
On topic: to be honest there's so little to go on with what you've posted that atm it's hard to be anything more than ambivalent about this project, if that. Plus with no context 'alien invasion during a zombie apocalypse in Renaissance Europe' sounds bad; aliens don't really work in a Fantasy setting (there's a reason the fourth Indiana Jones film was the worst of the lot...well...there's lots of reasons, but that's one of them), and when I read 'zombie apocalypse' it took me a minute or two to remember zombies do exist within fantasy settings and that they'd be that variety of zombie rather than the sort that appear in modern day set zombie apocalypses.
