So I’m in a gamer group of about 9 people and I organise tourney’s between us regularly. Im working on a CD army that I’m going to come in with shortly and theres only 1 list that im worried about.
One of our players loves to exploit the rediculous mending rule to heal his steam tank. Aside from that Empire is just annoying as holy hell to fight with the demis, flagellants, volley gun w/ engineer and other such horse shit units. I’m not really worried about anything but the possible multiple steam tanks with lore of life lvl 4 bullshit. Also raising units from destruction robbing me of half/all the points is so stupid!
Anyone encounter this? Is there a particular tactic I can use against it?

Wow, some rigeotus rage! I have killed a steam tank on 2 seprate occasions. Both times I killed it with my Greenskins. First time I made savage Orcs have poisoned attacks. The second time My giant Thumped it with his Club Causing a mighty 6 wounds! With Chaos Dwarfs you can use a Kadaai to lock it down, a Siege Giant to thump the crap out of it. An Iron Deamon with a cannonade to shoot the crap out of it. You can also use Lore of Hasut and Lore of fire to to obliterate the unit with the mage in it casting Lore of Life.
Lore of Life is even easier to deal with than the STank. You have to stop Throne of Vines every time they try and cast. It reduces the #of wouunds they get back, it makes their miscasts stick, and just reduces the overall effectiveness oth that caster in the magic phase.
2 DSRL with a Deamonsmith to allow rerolls with their demolition round can take a steam tank out in 1-2 turns. 2 Str 10 D6 wounds each should do it. Once that is finished turn them on the unit with the Life mage not to mention any magma cannons you have.
First and foremost I want to issue a formal apology for the initial thread title. It was not meant in any way, shape, or form to be a slurr. I was just having a little bit of fun with with my frustration. 1000 apologies to anyone I may have offended and rest assured it won’t happen again.
@Gunnerson: I probably would’t use a K’daai as it is a more expensive unit and that would do more for the enemy than me. The cannonade however is a great idea! That can be amazingly effective. Thank you.
@gashnag: Yeah I’m playing a few shriekers that should go over greatly. Thx!
@Samanos: Sounds great! Was hoping to put fire on my smiths but thats just as good. Thanks a bunch!
@Larendord: Thank you
Great advice everyone! Thanks again and again sorry for the initial fa-… um… I mean rudeness
Ways to kill it, hit it with ash storm get a wound off with black hammer. -3 to -4 to a save (if you have the ap banner), means it saves on 4+ or 5+. So alot easier to do than one might think.
Dreadquake direct hit.
Hell cannon direct hit.
Flames of Azergoth direct hit has a so so chance. t6-2 to t4 not a big chance but it is one.

Well if you Organize the tournament, _you_ make the rules. So the first think that comes to mind is the classic No triple special and no double rare if above 90 points. this will also kill the double hydra and a few of its scary counterparts options.
I'm going to a tournament to with the extra rules: min 40% core, No lord, max 15% Rare. (just to illustrate that banning doubles is not weird or anything. (if you want to see weird, look up the ETC restrictions)
Also, on only have to do about 1 or 2 wound to a Stank to make it quite unaffected, as the chance of blowing it op when it has 1/2 wounds gets a _lot_ bigger.
I did forget something when it comes to dealing with stank Tank. There is our over priced one use per game item, that does d6 unsaveable wounds to all chariot type units within 18 inches. This item (whatever the name is), does cost way too much and it is only semi useful in a all comers list. But with the advent of chaos heavy chariot armies, maybe some one should take it and see how it does? I would offer to do it, but am currently locked in with my list I have as of now for wargames con. Which while not my best build one I have to get working with so I can at least not be table last when the dust settles.
I’ve actually used the Daemon Flask quite a few times. It’s a darn good item! Cause a bunch of panic checks, then make stuff flee off the table all on the same turn! I combine it with Lore of Death so my first target is the enemy BSB - great fun!!
