At the 9th Age forum there were published the army related results of the ETC tournament. Even if this is a special environment with 8-men-teams it is to expect that this will have influence on the upcoming 9th Age rules update, announced for autumn.
The Infernal Dwarves had the best average results at the ETC of all factions. Congratulations to all ID players there :hat off!
There were lots of high wins.
Sadly this will possibly have some effect on nerfing the ID even further than the RT had already done. At best nothing will get better or stronger than at the moment, additional (positive) rules or items without getting drastically nerfed at other spots or higher points costs will not be possible now.
This in addition to calling a lot of other players for Nerfs at our infernal dwarves already before the ETC.
What are your personal experiences and what do you think of it?
There’s no doubt about it; the Infernal Dwarfs are a strong army! We have more than one strong build and we perform respectably well in every phase. But we’re still a niche army and word on the street is a lot of folks are aware that we have high scores partially because so few players have real experience against us. So while it is possible something(s) will be adjusted down in the future, I also strongly believe several other good things are coming! I’m not on the army book committee but the discussions I’ve seen have all been about improvements and nothing mentioned about nerfs.
So who (T9A-Forum-users) is on the army book commitee? It is not so obvious like some months ago when all people who were in were labeled accordingly. Some now have several tasks and the staff list doesn`t list the ABCs either (or am I wrong?).:hat off
The problem with being niche is that there isn’t enough data to get a proper idea of how good they are. A couple of good players can make an army look overpowered in just a few games, on top of other players just not knowing how to deal with the army because they rarely play against it.
Thats hilarious xD
But thats way more doable in ETCs match up than an all comers. His army could have been constructed as a counter to exactly Sylvan Elves <3
@TheHoodedMan - I don’t think it’s been decided who’s on the army book committees yet. Keysersoze and blonde beer are the two designers of the current book (I think they did a darn fine job!) and they still talk about things they are looking at changing. But as I understand it, a new dedicated team of folks will now update all the army books and the old teams are dissolved so who is or isn’t on the new team is a grey area right now. I can only tell you it isn’t me
@Carcearion - the Data Analyst team compiled results from 50ish tournies before the ETC and published a document showing their findings and Infernal Dwarfs were high in that one too. So with the ETC results more or less confirming the original results, there is substantial evidence that something needs to happen.
Maybe some minor adjustments will be necessary for internal and external balance, my thoughts to that:
General rules: Could stay like they are.
edit: Maybe volcanic embrace should only do S3 hits.
Items: to think about (Ring/Hammer (could stay as it is from my point of view)? remove steel skin?, Vanguard banner cheaper, metalshifting blade cheaper or more expensive and constant use.
edit: I miss the dagger which gives Hatred :-).
Characters could largely stay the same, Subjugator should be cheaper or equipment at least should be cheaper. All lvl 4 should be a little cheaper (not only ID).
Core: Should largely stay the same, range of Blunderbuss to 9 or 10" with “wall of lead”?
Special: Immortals special rule? Disciples max. number reduced (25 a unit/ 50 per army)? Flying at Incarnates only for 1 unit and to pay for? Taurukh and Anointed push? War machines could stay like they are, think this is balanced.
Rare: Gunnery team some changes (move and shoot and/or BF 4)? Titan a little more expensive or Ld dropped to 7? Armor of giant cheaper?
@Grimbold Oh wow, you know 9th age continuous to impress me with bits of information like that. Great to know their are really committed gamers out their so determined to make a fun/balanced game. I’m increasingly curious to try it but KoW is dominating my group right now (don’t get me wrong I really enjoy KoW), hope I get the chance to try it out sometime.
