[Archive] Fielding Two Iron Daemons-Questions

Heavygear:

So I have modeled two lovely iron daemons and I am looking for advice on what to take with them to compliment them in a 2400 point list. I have seen  people post on the merits of running two, but I haven’t seen any lists. Iron Daemons aint cheap so what are taking with them and how effective have your choices been. What would you take instead?

Geist:

I some times run one skullcraker, problem is the second you get charged by any cav of any sort your locked up. You need something to help them out and given the very odd movement rules its not that easy to get them into the combat they need to be in. With 2 of them you would need to run them kinda parallel to each other so one can counter charge the others targets. As for running something in place of one, theres alot of things that fit those points. Mainly bulls and fireborn, both are fast and have various strengths, if push cam to shove I would run bulls.

NoisyAssassin:

I really like taking dual Iron Daemons. Usually end up taking them along with dual Hellcannons and Hashut magic for a very defensive, blasty list. Pain Trains take a flank, wait to deploy them until you can get a juicy target to line them up against. If facing Monstrous Cav, that’s your target. With a pair of the guns blazing you’ve got a good chance of wiping out (or if Mournfangs, panicing) a unit, otherwise they’re practically forced to charge one, at which point you’ve neutralized the nastiest threat to your infantry with a nice big tarpit that isn’t going anywhere. I’m interested in trying a more aggressive list with two Iron Daemons and Destroyer. Could bring a LOT of hurt. I’d want an L2 on Fire at that point though to try and clear out the chaff that would gum up my heavy hitters.

I had thought about doing the same thing, but that is an expensive trifecta. Are you able to fit anything in your list that can
flank whatever unit ends up in your iron daemons? The tar pitting has its advantages, but I would really like to win those combats. I guess the two hell cannons would be a possible answer to that question.

I was thinking of maybe two small units of Hobgoblins with extra hand weapons or some wolf riders to escort the iron daemons.

I think a pair of Hellbound Iron Daemons are nice problem solvers. They can sit back and target the nasty multi wound stuff and shred the incorporeal chaff. My only concern is having too many anvils and not enough hammers to go around when it comes time to close with the enemy.

A destroyer is more of a sledge hammer and certainly has the potential to run around crushing units. Then I look at the High Elf flame phoenix (which everyone plays one or two of around here) and think that thing is going to tie up my destroyer and give me fits.

I guess the only way to find out is to play test it as much as possible.

Baggronor:

Minimum Core in IG, 3 trains, Destroyer and Lord on Taurus. Go. :cheers

deadlydeceiver:

Haha, would love to give that a try Bagg. Also I think some Wolf-Khans are essential to that build ^^

The Besieger:

Last year i done two tounaments with fielding two Iron Daemons in my army.

Both upgrade with Hellbound and one with Skullcracker.

On the moment i finished with painting my Khan’s for my next project.

Seems i got the same idea like NoisyAssassin :cheers.

Will post the Magic Items after the tounament :).
