Heavygear:
Its less flying, more being able to move through units and terrain. Makes perfect sense since they are made of magical fire.

Thommy H:
I can see a justification for them flying, it’s just a bit wacky because they didn’t have it before and in the other compendiums there’s been an explanation if something could “fly” without actually flying (like ethereal units, the Green Knight, etc.). It’s fine though.
Heavygear:
I don’t know. There is some potential here I think. You probably aren’t going to play the same list you have been playing for Fantasy.
Using the models in my collection I can field the following list
Drazoath
4 Daemonsmiths
Lamassu
Blackshard Warhost - Castellans, 2 blocks of 25 Ironsworn, 2 units of 5 Infernal guard w/fireglaives
Hashut’s Wrath Artillery Train - Deamonsmith, Deathshrieker x 2, 2x Iron Daemons
Skullcracker
Magma Cannon
Dreadquake Mortar
Kdaii Destroyer/Great Taurus
I’ll throw in some goblin fodder - 1 unit of 40 and 2 units of 20 archers because I can.
Battle plan
Castle up and shoot for 2 turns while spamming fireborn. I’m thinking of converting dryads for a cheap option. Yeah, its fairly dirty but since we are in the age of frakking sigmar and GW didn’t see fit to give us balanced rules, why not?
Iron daemons shoot for two turns, then charge with fireglaives in support or fireglaives can baby sit the warmachines.
Destroyer charges things.
Skullcracker moves forward to hit enemy warmachines along with fireborn. Do things like the empire steamtank and skaven doomwheel, screaming bell count as warmachines now?
Fireborn hunt chaff act as chaff along with goblin archers
Lamassu flies around casting spells and maybe hunting characters or chaff
Inronsworn lock shields behind the goblins and wait to mop up.
Drazoath supports the Infernal Guard. Casts spells as needed.
Of course I have yet to play AoS because everyone in my meta has sworn a blood oath against GW for spewing it upon us. My normal opponents are all sticking with 8th while simultaneously trying out Chaos Wars. 9th age is a possibility as well. Since the Buckeye Battles tournament is such a determining factor locally, I expect whatever they choose to go with will become the standard.

Come on. Zero compatibility with the old models, I haven’t seen blunderbusses too, and the lammasu!
It’s absolutely ridiculous compared to thommy homemade rules, once again the proof that the community is way better than the official jam

Zero compatibility with the old models, I haven't seen blunderbusses too, and the lammasu!Lamassu rules were released day one in the Warriors of Chaos war scrolls right beside the rules for Great Taurus. You can't ride it but it is a survivable wizard. And fluffy. Blunderbuss = Fireglaive. What other rules did you need? There were more than a few "older than big hats" models that did not get rules in LoA.

Laurellien:
I may be wrong here, but are there no rules for blunderbusses or lords/sorcerers mounted on taurus/lammasu?
Lord Elpus:
Er… where’s the blunderbusses???
I will miss the ramalamassu!
Sure we can use O&G rules, but I remember wehn they were slaves that we could use anyway!!
I feel that this has really limited the army, and I know there’s a lot of folk out there right now, not too happy with the new scroll!
Thommy H:
All right, let’s not get personal here…
TheHoodedMan:
There is no need to get childish. I thought this was a more mature forum, so let's act that way please.Thank you :cheers.

This thread was getting out of hand. I’ve had it closed and deleted a lot of posts in it. Here’s a few things to consider/remember:
Aromat:
Nice :). Will field some earthquakes. Strange there is no mention to Hellcannon Referring to Woc pdf.
Vex:
Well that’s disappointing.
Looks like I wont need to convert a kadaii destroyer after all. And why the hell was the sorcerer prophet removed?
Thommy H:
Same reason mounted Bretonnian Paladins, Dwarf Thanes and Imperial Captains were removed - AoS doesn’t have the division between lords and heroes now: warscroll compendiums generally just contain the lord version, whose profile you can use as either. A hypothetical Sorcerer Prophet wouldn’t be any different from the Daemonsmith give here.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
I was hoping to be the first one to post this, being a GW retailer, but you guys must have got the notification in Britian faster than I did in Canada. … Well, I think I will allow both Thommy H and Forgeworld’s versions in my store (Monster Hobbies in High River, Alberta). Time to consider building up my Chaos Dwarf Army again…or my Azgorh army, whatever the case may be.

Daemonsmiths aren't all that great in the warscroll.

Kaleb Daark:
the warscrolls are model driven.
remember there are no armies as such now, only factions.
we need to remember that It’s model driven (so far), so apart from the four page rules, everything else is in the model’s warscroll, otherwise they’d be forever updating the wizard’s scrolls for example, or releasing summoning spells as their own scroll.
The 8th ed. armybook conversions are essentially warscrolls for the miniatures produced for that model line, nothing more.
GW kept their pledge by producing rules which “allow you to use your existing miniatures”. miniatures is the keyword here, not army.
New customers will just be told that they can play and field anything they like the look of, so buy what you like and bring it to the table.
AoS fundamentally forces you to think in models collected rather than army composition terms.
The rules on the scroll are very simple, perhaps too simple, which is where the confusion lies.
