You will manage to. Somehow accidents will happen.
I don’t know why you think you suck at blending, they’ve come out great

The camouflage patterns on that green ship is so ridicolously sharp! Well done!
Take some photos at the space battle - I love space battles.
Abecedar:
I prefer to think of swearing whilst modelling as " infusing the model with arcane language
Malorndk:
Looks awesome Fuggit
TheHoodedMan:
Really nice, awesome camo. What kind of tape do you use for masking? Special masking tape?
Scar:
nice work m8!!

Darkmeer:
Wow. The camoflage pattern looks great, and the blue one looks great too. You’ve done an amazing job on both of them, and your foresight into how everything ties together is excellent, as always, Fuggit.
Admiral:
The sleek paintjobs suits the models perfectly. Well done!
Jackswift:
They came out very well! Will look ace in tge tabletop and I concur re your blending came out very smooth. I like how you’ve done your fighters and bombers. Still trying to work out a solution I like for full thrust.
Fuggit Khan:
Thank you gentlemen for all the nice comments, this truly is great motivation for me to keep finishing up more ships for my tabletop spaceship battles gaming for this summer :cheers
Take some photos at the space battle - I love space battles.Well, we had two games, both were draws, but lots of fun. And my friend took photo’s…but his camera (and pretty much everything else) went missing due to a spiteful (now ex) girlfriend

Really nice, awesome camo. What kind of tape do you use for masking? Special masking tape? Thanks Hood, I use Tamiya brand model masking tape. My local hobby shop recommended it, best on the market they said. And I’m very impressed by it…makes clean lines and lifts easily without damaging underlying paint…and no sticky residue either.

Impressive yet again. I couldn’t even cut up something that small let alone stick it into place not just once but repeatedly.
Fuggit Khan:
@Abecedar: drinking a hot cup of tea always soothes my nerves (and patience) when working with small decals
My next model for my table top space gaming fleet…the Dark Nebula Empire battleship Pleiades.
Naturally the Dark Nebula Empire are bad guys, and they appear in two of the Space Cruiser Yamato movies from the late 70’s/early 80’s. In a way they are like Chaos Dwarfs, they conquer other races through widespread warfare, exploit conquered lands for the natural raw resources which then feeds their constant demand for metal/oil/precious materials to feed their home empire. They don’t have beards though
I have always loved the Dark Nebula Empire ship designs, because of the unmistakable tall conning tower/bridge designs. These style bridges were common on WWII Japanese battleships, referred to as “Pagoda Masts” :
For those of you who are history nerds as myself, please check out this nice article of the wartime purpose of such insanely tall bridge designs:
Pagoda mast - Wikipedia
So, this is a pretty old model, older than most of you guys probably. First produced back in 1980, Bandai still reissues this model due to it’s immense popularity in Japan. But back in 1980, well, models and mold technology was primitive by today’s standards. A great little kit, but with some minor flaws due to the limitations of the technology of that time. Anybody who has ever seen or built a plastic model kit from the 1950’s thru the early 80’s will know what I’m talking about
Nice parts and detailing actually…
But the Pagoda Mast bridge is wrong!
Damn.
The super tall bridge is the coolest part of the ship…and it’s wrong
Well, Fuggit ain’t cool with that.
So white plastic sheet and brass wire to the rescue…
The Pagoda Mast is not finished yet…but it’s getting there
And a bit of cultural nerdism:
I will give 30 slaves to the first person who can tell me why the Dark Nebula Empire ships are called “Black Ships” by the Japanese crew of the Yamato.
Admiral:
Beards or bust! Still, that is a nice model despite its age and lack in the bridge department. Thanks for sharing on the pagoda bridges (made me think of CD Man o’ War battleships) and best of luck! No idea as to the cultural significance inherent in the Black Ships out of hand… Nothing connected to Yin-Yang, is it? Signifying dignity? Maleness? Would it be cheating to Google it?
This is turning into quite the astronaval collection! Any plans for asteroid fields, shipwrecks or similar space debris?
Abecedar:
I will just click the “Like” button afew times
Bloodbeard:
Trying to earn myself some slaves I read some wiki articles on Dark Nebula Empire. Couldn’t find the reason, but their fleet is so cool! Holy smokes. Do you have many of them?
Jackswift:
I concur re old models. Lots of fun. Your in-progress conversion work on the conning tower looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing the final result.
Fuggit Khan:
Thank you guys, there is always a bit of nostalgic fun making old school vintage plastic models :hat off
And no one can guess the “Black Ships” cultural reference? Hmmm…time to up the pay off then ![]()
I will now offer 50 slaves to the first correct answer as to why this term was used to describe the Dark Nebula bad guys.
One very vague hint: Dark Nebulan soldiers wear capes and leotards.
But I’m willing to offer a smaller amount of slaves for the best closest answer as well if nobody can figure it out :hashut
Nothing connected to Yin-Yang, is it? Signifying dignity? Maleness? Would it be cheating to Google it?Good guesses Admiral. Googling it will give a huge historical hint, but may not fully answer the question in regards to the usage in modern Japanese society.

Do you have many of them? The Dark Nebula Empire have some super cool ship designs! This kit I’m making is the only one I have, as well as being the only injection molded plastic kit ever made (although there are plastic kits of their tripod war machines and tanks).

Admiral:
Black ships… I seem to recall from the Shogun II encyclopedia that the large European (Portuguese) vessels making it to Japan were called such, as were Commodore Perry’s flotilla. That’d be foreign ships, or even foreboding ships or harbingers of upheaval and calamity. Would black ships signify an outside invasion of the familiar one knows? Or perhaps signalling catastrophe or dread brought in from foreign quarters? Breakers of harmony? Dark omen? Equal to “black alert” in disastrous situations? Swearword?
Darkmeer:
I think Admiral has it correct. That’s definitely in Japanese culture, they called all western ships that, IIRC.
