Hardware stores often sell a whole whack, as do hobby stores that deal with R/C things like cars, planes, boats, etc.
If you lived in the Toronto area, I’d suggest Active Surplus. They used to be on Queen St, but I’m not sure they’re still there now that Queen St has gotten all trendy.

Rip appart an old VCR or busted CD Player or a big old ghetto blaster with a twin tape deck. Lots of gears and motors in those!

Chinese wholesale sites have tons of plastic stuff, for pennies. I often buy their crap when I make scenery pieces considering the super low price.

Just found some nice gears today in a pair of battery powered salt and pepper grinders that didn’t grind big grains as advertised, and now have to small motors that I’ll probably never find a use for too
