[Archive] Giant anyone?

Loidrial:

Does anyone plays it? Simply straight question.

I remember when I used to play in the 5/6th ed there werent many around if not just orcs.

Is today a good choice for a CD army?

And for a model point of view, do you think the Ettin from Descent will be a good model for it?

If I remember correctly is 1 head taller than the whfb ogres

Loidrial:

Well there was a time when many armies could hire giants as mercenaries.
Ettin from Descent looks way to small (In fact if you compare it to the Tamurkhan drawing with a Chaos Dwarf sitting on his neck. That's a huge giant.) but I will use a Shaggoth as giant and he seems also too small. So nevermind and go with your Ettin.

Herby
50 euro or how much was it, still too much. but I was wondering if it is anygood today.
I remember back playing Confrontation that the Mountain Warrior was quite big, but I dont remember exactly how much.

Bloodbeard:

Giants are not worth their points, they are way to random in damage output and the can take the famous cannonball to the face.

But giant are really fun - if your into crazy list. And the concept of a slave siege giant is fantastisk (poor creatures). Any evil prophet should have his own slave giant.

The siege giant (with it’s special rules) are great for scenarios and siege battles. Not regular games, but those special occations and extra planned games.

I got a real GW giant (with all the cool extra bits glued on) for 12 euro inc. postage. There are plenty of used giants around.

sam585:

Giants can work in a list with alot of monsters/ aggressive list. They just need proper support, deployment, and use of terrain and are not as point and click as other monsters are.

I checked this noon on ebay for giants but was atleast 40usd more or less
It would be cool see some list with:
hobs, khan, bulls, kdaai and giants.
I always liked those strange lists.
Thx for the info

Heavygear:

I saw this in my local gaming store yesterday. It would make a great giant or even maybe a kdaii. 12.99 US dollars from Reaper miniatures.

Minotaur Demon Lord

TheHoodedMan:

looks great (and not really expensive)!

Yodrin:

awesome mini…

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Roark:

That thing’s beautiful. I wish Reaper would take photos like this for all their minis. Or is it that this is is just a bit crisper and more detailed than their usual?

Abecedar:

I have used them in both O&G and CD games (for the fun factor) but each time I think my opponents were dwarfs or dwarf/empire mix, so they ended up as first choice for target practice. Expensive decoys mainly

That is really impressive! I didnt know about this!
I was thinking instead something else. I know it is kinda lame, I saw it beeing done by someone else so I'm here asking to everyone.

What do you people think about this as Destroyer AND Giant (just swap the base)

I thought even about bronzebeard but he is less "chaoish"

And more expensive atm on ebay

Geist:

Let me just ask a simple question. Why ever take a giant?

Bloodbeard:

I like that model. He is pretty cool.

Geist
Because the player think it’s a cool model? Because it has some funny crazy rules? Because it’s part of a scenario? Because you’re playing a siege game?

Miasma:

I always used to run 2 Giants with my Night Goblin army, they were a lot of fun plus with numerous other threats it is quiet possible to run them to mess with an opponents target priority

Abecedar:

The first ever time I used a Giant, one of my own fanatics killed it. Thats fun.

Isn't killing more of your guys than the enemy what fanatics are supposed to do? ;P

Because I'd like to play some different list. I'd love to have a 2.5k list with heavy fun melee stuff.
Hero on Taurus, bulls + hero, destroyer, fireborn and giant.
Maybe it will sucks. Probably it will. but games are about fun tecnically
I like that model. He is pretty cool.

Bloodbeard
Wich one of the 2? the heavy armored one i guess. Do you think it will fill the spot? I saw it some time ago here around but cant remember where.

Zuh-Khinie:

The first time I used a giant (6th ed.) He stuffed a fully kitted blood dragon lord in his sack. Worth every point, and the look on my opponent’s face was priceless…

Needless to say, they don’t however perform that well in every battle

sam585:

I will play a few games tomorrow with this list and let you know how it fares in my 3 games.

Prophet

BSB

Taur’ruk

Khan

Khan

33 Blunders

20 hobs

5 Centaurs

Destroyer

Siege Giant

Miasma
Yep! Back in 4th edition days I played 3 Giants with my Night Goblin army too...the Giants were named Master, Blaster and Disaster.
Honestly, I don't recall any time where all three of them survived a game.
But the fun factor of everybody in the game store yelling "Jump up and down!" was priceless.
As well as the one time watching the face of my vanilla Dwarf opponent as his general killed two Giants in combat, him smiling from ear to ear. And then the look on his face as both Giants fell down dead on his general and squished him :)
Maybe it will sucks. Probably it will. but games are about fun technically

Loidrial
Exactly...games are about fun :hat off
