*I’ve been out of it for a bit, but have recently been very excited to start this up again. I hope to have more meaningful things to share soon…
Most current Group shot (4/2/13)
Just wanted start with a doodle I did while I was suppose to be studying. Hopefully now that finals are out of the way, I’ll have a chance to get to business and start doing something with this army. I don’t have much to show off so far, but I figured I’d throw up what I’ve got and try and show you guys the direction I’d like to be heading. I am eager for constructive criticism and tips, but please keep in mind that most these are works in progress.
This entire army is likely to be converted, because I have really been inspired by the work I have seen on this community. Big thanks to all of you. The other reason for this, is the fact that I work as an Instructional assistant, am a college student, and care for a one year old. All this is to say, my hobby budget is pretty shallow. Enough with the jibber jabber already…
This is my very first, and perhaps my best conversion for this army so far. I’m really looking forward to using what I’ve learned on the next characters.
My wife played with the lighting, and made him look really EVIL!!!
I’ve been sculpting beards and funnels for the blunderbuss out of putty, and slapping on faces from various WOC bits.
I’m working on an earth shaker (on the left) and a death rocket (on the right). You probably recognize all the components, chap stick tube, tops from water bottles, and the defilers battle cannon.
You guys may have seen this already…
Kollosus Concept Discussion Thread:
This thing needs so much work…
Thanks for looking at my pig pile of mess! I’m new to this so I’d love to hear your thoughts on making it better. I’ll be taking these guys to my first tournament ever this weekend, so keep an eye out for battle reports. It’s called the clash for the cure. I did a drawing that they ended up making into T-shirts, hats and stickers. Spoiler Alert: I doubt I’ll win a single game.
The one thing I have to like most so far would have to be the Kolossus. The actual steam carriage on top of it looks very, very reminiscent of the CD Man 'O War models, so well done
Also, the Breast Cancer awareness logo on the shield is a nice touch. It’d be nice to see a whole army done like that with transfers (probably Brettonians, not WOC)
I should have looked at some of those Man O’ War models. That would have made some things easier. As far as the Kollosus goes, I’m looking forward on starting that for real. The carriage will get several layers so it looks like its made of iron. They’ll be huge armor plates over its face and legs. Huge rivets everywhere. My one year pulled off one of the tusks, and now I can’t find it. I was thinking about re sculpting one out of putty, and some one recommended modeling it as though it had broke off somewhere (some dragon’s ass).
Perhaps it would be of benifit to make a mold of those woc faces in green stuff instead of cutting them up?
Thorne
I was thinking the same thing. I actually did make some press molds out of putty for the first time. I haven't molded any yet, but I'm excited about it. If the process works well, I may try and work out something to try and make sculpting these beards a bit easier.
The heffalump is demonically possessed, and has no need to hear nor think independently. The only thing he is concerned with is doing exactly what the demonsmith wills him too. I didn’t get a chance to post my obsidian guard but I want to used possessed black orcs…
I’ve this concept in mind where the Smith having enslaved a particularly powerful demon. He holds it in an amulet, where it rages like contained ocean of malevolence. The smith has devised a way to allow the demon to take hold of living beings who then become extensions of the demon, as though they were extensions of itself.
I have to confess, that I’ve been slacking big time. I’ve only the following to report as progress. I wonder what will happen to this army list when the rise of Tamurkhan (no clue how to spell it) drops from forge world. I’m almost afraid to work on this army right now.
My host will now be led by Dwarf Vader. Thanks for the tip Scott. You seem to know everything about everything sometimes…
Here is he is with his crew. I may consider painting them to resemble storm troopers.
Most of you have seen these, but they have some primer. I was going to build a chasis for them, but found myself running out of steam for conversion. If I had more money, I would just buy some old cannons of ebay as basis, but this works well enough for me.
And, just in time for all those storm of magic creatures you guys are looking forward to fielding, I present to scratch built bolt throwers. I need at least 2-3 more.
Thats all for now. I suppose the next things I’ll want to work on are more spear chucka’s, painting my possessed black orcs, and finishing conversions on my infantry. The Kollosus Demon tower conversion will be suspended for now, until I have a chance to see if any of the rules change with the release of the rise of tamurkuahn or the revision to the Indy GT book that we have been told to expect.
Alright, I’ve not been doing much modeling or painting, but I have done a little bit, and I thought I’d throw up a shot of something I’m “working on” in between the rest of life.
You guys met Dwarf Vader. He’s counts as a Prophet of Hashut and here are his storm troopers, complete with AT-ST unit filler! They need white highlights to build them back up to the level of brightness they should have. They will count as a horde of 30x fire glaives or blunderbuss. I have yet to play test and see what I prefer…
I haven’t updated in along time, but I’ve so snapped a few shots with my phone because I’m pretty excited about getting back into things. When i find the camera I’ll have plenty post. Stay tuned
A drawing inspired from the tamurkaun book…
Blunderbuss…
And an Iron demon conversion (Island of Sodor Pattern)…
With his Infernal “Storm Trooper” Guard (count as fire glaives)
AT/ST unit filler
Demon Smith (Just got a few base colors so far). This model was converted from a Battle for skull pass dwarf. I sculpted the beard, armored skirt, added tusks, and a thunderhammer.
The Infernal Guard with Blunderbuss conversions. First row’s almost done. This random beholder from reaper should be a sweet unit filler when I get around to it.
This pink battle standard bearer was painted to use in a local event called Clash for the cure.
This unit of Bull Centaur renders is getting a little bit of conversion work. I think the broken horns look diesel.
Speaking of diesel, here’s my Iron demon conversion. I’ll take it as a skull cracker, cause we need skulls cracked. Yeah, it’s a thomas the train toy and this amuses me deeply.
My “Hell Cannon” needs a lot of work, its a plasma bug from stormship troopers. It’s big, but I intend to cut the legs a bit and angle it so it fits on the base better and has a more dramatic “shooting crap out of its ass” pose.
That’s it for now, I hope to have more to share again sometime soon. Thanks for looking, and constructive criticism is always welcome.
i really like your earthshakers but i do not like the use of bottle tops for wheels, looks like… well bottle tops. (same goes for the wheels on he skullcracker)
a quick question, what is that bit (collar with spikes and stuff) that you have on your earthshakers?
Yeah, I agree that I need to build up a chasis and real wheels for the mortars. I swear its on the list of things to do. Thanks for the CC though, It’s good to remember how bad those things look.
As far as the bits, they are part of the 40k chaos rhino kit. I like bits ordering from ebay.
Very minor update. I offer it mostly because I’ve gotten a spurt of motivation, time, an energy at the same time and I’m hoping that your kind encouragements and vindictive cajoles will help keep me going.
My meager offering after a long time out of the saddle: 5 more blunderbuss greens.
I’ve got like 10 more to go till I’ve got the 25 or so that I’d like to be able to field
A lot of cool stuff here!!! Like the beards you have crafted on your minis. Nice Iron Deamon, but poor Thomas:(. And I am looking forward to seeing your ass-shooting-bug-Hellcannon;)
