Ok so on the warhammer.org.uk forums there is a challenge of 38 gamers painting up new armies for 8th edition… I jumped on this track as an excuse to do up an army that I have wanted to do in a very long time… Chaos Dwarfs… but along with anything I have never had the time nor motivation to do it… until now
So going along the lines of what I could do and the fact that I am really looking to push my creativity as far as possible… I opted to do something different with this army… and yes this means that there will be a lot of custom made models or parts… I may even get to a point where I experiment with casting… but time will tell on that aspect as sourcing materials in Turkey is not as easy as one would think…
A little back story here… originally from Canada I moved to Turkey about 4.5 yrs ago… since then I have been learning a lot of the Turkish culture… be it on my own or forced upon me by my fellow work mates…
So while chatting with a fellow gamer from another city we got to thinking of how we can build up a nice Turkish styled army in fantasy with existing rules…
It hit me… Chaos Dwarves!!! They have the ability to play in different kind of styles and also do horde style armies that are typical of Turkish tactics or at the very least lifestyle ( Istanbul, where I live currently, has over 15 million people in it… so horde comes to mind often ).
So expect a lot of odd ball Turkish oddities to be found throughout the army theme itself. Especially in the first unit that I have to show off now…
So a very typical unit of Turkish Hobgoblins to start things out… why HBs first? Cause well I am normally a NG player and have a lot of spare parts in this area, plus a lot of friends with them also. So easy to start somewhere that needs the least amount of monetary investment.
Next up will be a unit of 5 Wolf Raiders… again cause I have the parts to make them. Why only 5? Easy to get completed in a month while I clean up other commissions… and also cause I can then also get some of hte sculpting on some of the other units.
Also it is worth noting that I will not be using GW dwarfs for this army… instead I have opted for the Mantic styled ones… I know from reading a few threads already that not a lot of people like them, but I think they will work for what I am going for. I have a few on the go at the moment but I only bought 1 10 man box so far… but plan on buying another 60 in due time.
Ok so lots of writing, a couple of photos… hopefully more to come over the weeks/months to follow… I really hope to get a good 3k point force made up… that can be played up either Greenskin heavy or CD heavy… either way it will be artillery heavy at one point or another… and I plan to try to get as many different unit choices into the army as possible.
@nitroglysarine - I had to look that one up… though I guess to a point they are… hoping that later on they will have a lot of slapstick style of humor going on in this army also
@warh - thanks for saying that… I am hoping for it to turn out as such… and if I can keep this level of quality going throughout then it should be
@tjub - Thanks for checking them out… as stated on your blog I come and visit it often looking for inspiration… so will be checking it often as I try to finish this army…
Am hoping to uphold the tradtion of this site to produce another great CD army project that is full of creativity like so many already here… will be asking for a lot of your help on what I can use or how I might go along for some units…
Well done neighbor :hat off ! I am looking forward to see the rest of your army. Especially some dwarfs. I believe the blunderbusses are gonna be great in an ottoman themed army . Cheers :cheers
@Alfract… big hats with some masks… since I am using the Mantic dwarfs some have the masks on them already… though the big hats will not be typical big hats… but they are looking a bit different even to me… will post up some photos when I get home from vacation and get a proper chance to show them off…
@Golder… I am not going to have too many annihilators… only cause I see them as being completely broken in the Indy GT lists… especially against Horde units… though I will probably make 2 units of 10 or a bit unit of 15-20 of them just for completion sake.
Thanks again for the comments. Really happy to see so many comments from everyone already… really motivates me to work on them more
Ok so I got a bit of work on my CDs over the holiday week… having a little on needing naps and going to bed earlier reduced my chances to stay out and enjoy the nice weather…
As you can see I am going for big hats not really masks here, but with a twist… still have a bit more work to do on the hats by adding a band around the bottom edge of it… to show where it starts on the head…
Will also add some baggy pants to them… some to the knee some to the ankle… to give it a bit of variety…
As far as weapons go though it is GW all the way as much as I can… so waiting for my plasticard tubing to show up so that I can make the weapons… though am concerned on how I will line them up, but I will deal with that later…
Also started on the first 5 wolf riders also. They will have big puffy pants and large bellies and small vests like the other hobgoblins. Should be interesting once they are finished…
I have other things in the works also but will wait on showing them until they are more together… not sure if the idea will work out yet…
A little more work has been done, but no real pictures due to my camera acting up…
I did however just order up 60 more Mantic Dwarfs, and 50 Mantic Ghouls also… the ghouls will be used for rabble in the end… but with Fezs and such added to them… also bought some styrene rods for weapon shafts for the CDs with GWs and am looking forward to seeing them get put together
Hopefully I will have pictures soon of semi finished Wolf riders, perhaps this weekend if time permits…
Thanks Nitro… though I am going less traditional big hats and more cloth hats with a metal rim… I do like how you have them ranked up right now though… both on the square base sprue ( very easy little movement tray if there wasent any spaces ) and on the GW movement tray…
I did do some work on the hats in so far as adding a rim to it… I think it gives a bit more detail to it that it is currently missing… will see… I might even try to paint one up this weekend if I can finish building one… right now most are without the right arms as I am not sure how the weapons will line up…
I do not see myself getting a unit painted up for a while though as I want to get 20+ finished first before I begin to put paint to them… will work on the greenskins in the meantime as I do up smaller units and put the GS/Proceate to the CDs…

No worries, a few people are on the fence with the hats, stil thinking they are to big, i think they'll work when painted.
Yeah the ''ready made ranked up bases are handy to use while modelling them, to kind of sort them out and let them dry, useful! - I am going to glue them and cut them out, just not doing it until they are out of the green stuff stage.
