[Archive] GW hosting 40k Codexes

Swissdictator:

Got this from my regional group.

Under the astronomicon, the Witch Hunters and the Deamonhunters have a Codex download…

Containing all the rules…

Could DoW or Chaos Dwarfs be far behind??

pjschard
Could DoW and CD be far behind?

Grimstonefire:

Yes, a long way.

To be honest I’m not entirely sure why they’re doing this.  Sure they will be getting a new codex soon (possibly combined, it keeps switching so often I don’t know what the latest rumour is), but why should GW start now?

Why not do the necrons?

The only reason I can think of is because the books are actually out of print entirely now and they don’t want to print a new batch.

I’ll have to download them both though, just out of curiosity.

This is how I understood it being.

Joshmohr:

Coolio… Now i have it on GW, and on my PC. ive always wanted to start daemonhunters, but, hey i think this is a sign.

cornixt:

GW hosted the Kislev booklet for a while, so it’s not that new.

Joshmohr:

Dont forget about the old blood angles one… i hope they host codex’s more often.

Fequiil:

i thought they did this because wh and dh didn’t sell well…

Loki:

i am with Fequiil Witch Hunters and the Deamonhunters have never been a big seller for GW, i do have a witch hunters army but there is only 2 other people that i know have them they are a very cool army but they just dont bring in the sales any more and are there for using up space in stores that could be used for a high sellng army like space marines or orks

Fallen246:

When I played 40k, I got from a friend a single unit of six grey knights, and half that of grey knight terminators, and one grand master.

I was not motivated to actually buy any though, as the entire army is a metal release?

Fequiil
It's a lot of things. I think we can safely say they don't sell well enough, quickly enough, to recoup a new print run (or GW would do one) before a potential (likely due to rumours and the BA example) revamp. That's my take.

If I had any faith in GW anymore I'd add that they don't want to upset players by printing new books only to replace them within a couple of months - half a year.

Willmark:

If the Dark Eldar book gets hosted then we should stop and take notice.

:hat off

Servius:

The real reason they are there is the fact that the new book that is supposed to release Q3 this year was All the Ordos books… and a month or so ago they stopped allowing restock orders on both lines… the rumour i have heard from solid sources is that the release is being put on hold for an undetermined amount of time and as such they put the codexs up in the varying case people want to continue playing them while officially they dont provide the books…

Another rumour is in addition to the above but that both books will be completely legal after the new Ordos book is released as it will be the only way to play a Pure Grey Knights or Sisters of Battle army.

Firehammer:

The WH and DH pdfs are basically scans of the still legal but OOP 3rd edition Codices, just the rules (with some erroneous omissions) without background and the modelling part. These two were announced in the WD. Germany and France had those pdfs, when their Codices went OOP 2-3 years ago. BTW a Grey Knight Codex is expected January, a Sororitas Codex expected within about 18 months.

This is obviously a one time action. Even the most optimistic person could only expect a scan of the 4th edition Chaos Dwarf army book and the resp. DoW book, not something new. But this would obviously be totally unrealistic dreaming not based on facts.

Willmark:

Heh my opinion all along is that it cant be THAT hard to update the RH White Dwarf PDF…

Especially considering how little playtesting some armies get these days anyways.
