[Archive] GW's October Mystery Release

Loki:

I am pleased about the high elves as this is what i had heard as well and was looking forward to getting my hands on some at games day

Willmark:

Counter point. Whose to say that besides HEs there is not something else coming…? It’s right before holidays so heroquest is a possibility. Hell even with them saying they will “never” do another run of Space Hulk does anyone believe that? Money after all is a pretty strong motivator, especially for publically traded companies.

Suffice of to say all we can do is wait and watch.

cornixt:

Hmm, so that makes me think it could be another go of Space Hulk, but maybe a slightly different contents so that those who bought the “collectors” set don’t feel ripped off.

Willmark:

Maybe it’s Talisman? Or insert <“super duper eclusive never to be released again game; unless of course we happen to make a boatload of cash off it, thus making us forget our claims of never to be seen again”>

Point being with the timing of the release it’s aimed for the Holidays.

Doubt it's Talisman, Fantasy flight games has the rights of that game.

Willmark:

That was more of a joke then anything. I think it would have been much obvious had I said Gorka Morka  which would cool.

Willmark
Yep that would have been better, although I'd love to play some Gorka Morka again! :D

wallacer:

A lot of discussion on other threads seems to mention expiration of copyright and needing to release Warhammer Quest and maybe some of these other games as well to retain copyright.

Take that for what its worth.

Being a rabid Warhammer Quest fan, I like this argument for its re-release....

Won't hold my breath, but I'm secretly keeping my fingers crossed. All the embossing methods and fancy work they did on SH last yaer would translate very well over to Warhammer Quest. There were more than enough sprues and plastic in the SH box that I think making WHQ in a similar manner would't be so out-to-lunch. Hopefully if it is ever re-released they keep the plastic doorway pieces for holding boards together instead of the SH-style puzzle-piece joiners. The doors added a nice element.

I'm voting Warhammer Quest in the poll more out of 'hope' than 'belief' ;)

Willmark:

I’m willing to bet they saw how successful Space Hulk was and the bean counters thought “Hey what else have we got like that!”

Thorne:

Warhammer Quest (or less-likely: HeroQuest)

Cant see it happening but it would be nice, Then again less minitures less reason for people to buy our product

Space Hulk expansion

Would be kinda cool but I could see a very basic version comming out sooner rather than later without all the fancy posses and the likes

Sea-based battle set for WHFB

New miniture range to fail where full thrust OOps I mean battle fleet gothinc failed maybe ?

Necromunda or Space Crusade

Necromunda would be nice also cant say I ever enjoyed space hulk too much its space hulk for youngersters

It’ll just be an army book, what’s all the fuss?

Possibly

Something else Fantasy

Mayhaps something will be released something always does.

Something else 40K

as above

Id reckon expansions for the lord of the rings game.

AGPO:

I’d love to think Space Hulk would be re-released as I was gutted to miss out on it first time. Really I don’t see why they don’t just add it to the specialist games - It’d certainly sell far more copies than say Warmaster or Battle of Five Armies, based purely on Space Marine and Nid players

tjub:

My guess would be a Space Hulk expansion…

Nicodemus:

Here’s a snippet if text from BoLS, which can also be found here:

So its August already, and that leave only 4 months to go till the end of the year. Here’s what the lay of the Games Workshop release schedule looks like from all the chatter out there:

August: Chaos Daemons Minis

September: Island of Blood

October: High Elf Minis

November: Dark Eldar (should be formally unveiled at UK-Gamesday)

December: ???

Wildcards: There is a big Skaven 2nd wave in there somewhere (rumored to include the Hellpit Abomination) before the end of the year. GW doesn’t normally release army books/codices in December with the holiday season in full swing, but those Skaven have to go somewhere possibly doubled up with other earlier releases. In general this schedule looks to be a reinforcement of 8th edition in general and the the IoB armies in particular with back to back 2nd waves to get the new players of those armies coming back for more.

Q1 2011: Top contenders said to be Grey Knights and Orcs & Goblins

Dark Elves have already been talked about for the supposed ‘mystery release’, as have Kemri… if you look around on various forums there’s still a lot of people saying “Warhammer Quest”. Not a terrible guess considering it and Spage Hulk are really the top two GW boardgames overall. How much of the speculation is based on people really believeing it’s a good guess and how much of it is just based on wishful thinking is another matter. I love WHQ and we still play at least once/month, so I know I’m hoping it’s that… but it’s all wishful thinking in my case. Still and all, between 8th ED book, Island of Blood, some of the new Daemons, and the Avalon Hill re-release of Betrayal at House on the Hill (just in time for Halloween) it’s already making this a tight Fall… and a ~2.5 week vacation planned in Hawaii over Xmas isn’t going to help help the wallet. Time to bunker down and start painting I guess instead of buying anything else after Xmas. It’ll be just my luck that Forge World Fantasy will be properly unveiled with Chaos Dwarfs ready to roll out the door first thing in early January

Swissdictator:

My gut says Warhammer Quest, which I’d probably get. Though my brain doubts it and things something fantasy.

Nicodemus:

I continue to hope (probably in vain) that Warhammer Quest is on the horizon… seeing things like this in the “What’s New Today” on GW’s website doesn’t help!!

Hashut’s Blessing:

I noticed that and thought of you… Lol

zobo1942:

I hope the release (if there is one) isn’t a wide selection of ghost fence miniatures. That would suck.

I still am leaning toward a media blitz about the Utramarines movie. First trailer has been released…

I concur... I haven't been very impressed with the movie clips so far...:sick
