Canada… Canda… hmm… Canada… checks world map Canada… I think my map is wrong… there’s this big area north of the USA labeled as “Chunk o’ Ice”… I think it must be a misprint… Seriously though, may the celebrations be fun and exciting. Eat a good meal!
Kera foehunter:

Border Reiver:
I’m off to Parliament Hill to get the guns ready for the 21 gun salute in about 20 minutes. Then there will be beers and hamburgers on the BBQ.
It’s a good day.
GRNDL:
What exactly are you celebrating today? :)Its Canada's birthday as a single nation. But not as an independent country...

Khan!:
Horray, well done Canada!
I intend to play nerdy boardgames all day. I can’t even imagine eating bacon dipped in Swiss Chalet sauce. That sounds awful. More like, have a beer on the patio. Possibly drink some Tim Horton’s coffee, or shop at Canadian Tire. Or find a canoe ala Pierre Burton. Maple-syrup flavoured cookies if you get the reference.
Also Stampede is just around the corner here in Calgary, so the maple leaves are sharing space with cowboy hats and belt buckles.
Kera foehunter:
so how old is Canada?
Border Reiver:
142 years old (the first provinces united against the American threat in 1867)
Tarrakk Blackhand:
The “American Threat” being primarily the American Whiskey traders who were making fake whiskey and selling it to our First Nations communities. The Americans were also moving in on our land and setting up whiskey trading posts to sell this illegal rot.
Following this, Prime Minister Sir John A Mcdonnald established the North West Mounted Police Force (Later known as The Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in Winnipeg and sent them to Fort Macloed, Alberta, to fight the Americans coming from Montanna.
Interestingly enough, our Mounties broke up the American forts without firing a shot or loosing any troops. They just showed up, looked tough, and the Americans left.
I spent Monday in Fort Macleod and read all the stuff on the walls as well as watched the videos.
Canada is older than 1867, but that’s when the Canadian Confederation was signed. Canadian history goes as far back as the Vikings.
Look it up on Wiki…that’s what the web is for!
Border Reiver:
That would be recorded by Europeans Canadian History. There were a few other folks around before that.

Oh, and the American plan to attack Canada during the War of 1812 for use as a bargaining chip.

Joshmohr:
I celebrate this the same way every year. By not knowing its Canada’s Birthday.
Tarrakk Blackhand:
And...the vikings? It wasn't really "Canada" back then was it?Well, Lief Ericson and his crew landed on Newfoundland and set up a colony there. I'm not sure how long the Vikings stayed there, but the name stayed. Newfoundland didn't join Canada until 1949.

Ooooh, those weirdo folks from the other side of the Ocean! I still remember when, many years ago I was visiting an old fort next to the Niagara Falls and the guide was so proud to tell us that was the oldest building in North America still existing… when I asked how old it was he told me… around 150 years.
Ths was so funny because being an Italian I was curious why they were so proud to have a barrack just 150 years old… :o
North Americans are so funny… ehheheheeh ok, I’m jocking, do not take me too seriously
Happy birthday Canada! :hat off
