I am going to field a hobgoblin hero wearing the armor of gazrakh and I am wondering what would be a good way to convert this, right now I use gnoblars as my hobgoblins. I was thinking about using a black orc body because of the armor, but It really looks like this hobgobbo has been doin too many steriods. another Idea I am kinda messing with was to use an armored dwarf body (since the armor of gazrakh was probably made for a dwarf anyway) and modeling the hobgobbo to be too tall and skinny, not fitting the armor too well.
I fully agree that a black orc body would look much too big for a normal hobgoblin. While I would be interested to see how your dwarf idea turns out, Iāve heard of some people making armoured hobgoblins using Dark Elf torsos. Ive never done this myself, but it seems like it should work.
I agree with you: Black Orc models are too big for a scranny Hobbo (even a chieftain).
Anyway, in many artworks and conversions these goblinoids are rapresented to look like āmongol maraudersā, with pointy furry hats, long moustaches, scaler armors, scymitars, etc.
Reasoning on this, I think that first you should decide if you want him mounted or not (so you could work on a wolf, adding iron plates, ropes, pouches, any kind of miscellaneous equipment). Why donāt you make his armor to look like itās crude, but effective?
Large shoulder pads, maybe a āscale shirtā (made to look like itās too long for him, has it been stolen? ;)). You could make it ruined, with chips and cracks. Try to add little particulars that make the mini talk about teh Hobboās past: old trophies, food (to show that heās a nomad), bow & quiver, a bag, a rusty pistol stocked with haste in his trousers (pointing down of course :P), scars, loot, etc.
Personally I like A LOT the sword of the goblin wolfboyz champion. but itās just me of course
thanks for the ideas guys, but later that night after I posted this thread I decided to start fiddling with some bits and I decided just to build it. I went with the dwarf idea
the blue stuff is a stcky putty I use for experimenting without gluing, but the top one is glued and pinned, I wanted to get more pictures but my camera died and I cant find the charger
I like the ideaā¦ but the mismatched hands kinda throw it off for meā¦ Perhaps if his background explained why he has no mailed glove on one side an a mailed glove on the other, then I might be more apt to follow itā¦ Of course, it could just be a hugely mishapen body and one hand is bigger than the otherā¦ lol

Using a gnoblar head was perfect.
two_heads_talking
well I was thinking the model can double as one gauntlet of bazhrakk the cruel
Hehe, it looks cool and big... Can we see a size comparison with one of your "normal" hobgoblins and a dwarf? :)
tjub
this is the only picture i have of it next to a normal gnoblar
I like that he is larger but not terribly larger like a black orc would've been. I think it gives him good presence and his larger size really notes that he is an elite hobgoblin.
