What do people think about having all Hobgoblins with poisoned attacks?
It would make some of the other weapon options a bit more appealing. Sneaky Gits could get an additional hand weapon as standard (maybe skirmishers as well).
Wolf Riders would be quite mean having poisoned attacks.
It would give them a unique attribute amongst the other greenskins, and would be perfectly in character I think. After all, would you want to leave your poisoned weapon at home when the hobgobbo behind you in your unit has brought his?
I think it’s just too much, anyway I sort of like our sacrificial hobgobs as they are. Having skirmishers in a CD army is just over the top in my opinion, we have limited weaknesses as it is.
Don’t get me wrong Grim, I’d love to have poisoned hobgobs but only because I’m a Chaos Dwarf player. I just think that it’d make the army unbalanced.
I think with the way GW looked at Hobgoblins and made Oglah Khan’s wolfriders they are looking more at a Mongal image over shady posioney ninjas with skirmish and posioned weapons, I think that if they had to have a deffining attribute it should be that their Animosity is different to other Greenskins, a bit like the RoR Khans wolfriders with them swapping sides etc, that in itself makes them very shady or including a slaver that does what a BOrc hero does to normal regiments hehe.
I agree it would be fun though to have them with all poisoned attacks.
Hobgoblin Ninja-y Sneaky Gitz should get Poison, of course…
Maybe a single unit of archers for the entire army could get Poisoned arrows (although maybe they have to buy a banner to get that ability)…
And Hobgoblin heroes should, of course, have access to poisoned weapons.
But it shouldn’t be univeral. The regular scrabble don’t need poison and neither do the Wolf Riders who already get better-than-horse movement.
Besides, Hobgoblins already have MANY unique differences between themselves and other Greenskins…
They are the only ones that make and wear armor, they are the only ones that don’t WAAGH!, or at least don’t do so by charging stupidly and blindly at the enemy, they have Sorcerers who do things that no other Greenskin spellcaster can do (namely, trap and utilize wind daemons)… the similarities between them and other Greenskins has become almost thread-bare.
Of course, the trouble is focusing ‘Hobgoblins’ seperately from what they could do if expanded into an army of their own that would be able to focus on all their various developed aspects and what they can do as agents of Dwarfs…
Already with Chaos Dwarfs you have an army that is pretty much ‘we are Dwarfs, but can do all the things Dwarfs can’t do’ and to give the army the full range of a Dark Elf/Goblin/Brettonian hybrid army which pretty much fights in the polar opposite manner in addition to this is really cracking open their options perhaps even wider than those that Chaos has.
