Dînadan:

Personally I think the Heresy Miniatures goblins work better as hobgoblins as they gel more with the old ones and don’t look like half starved rabble like the Hobbit orcs do.

gIL^:

The heresy hobgoblins are also a perfect scale. The Hobbit ones are a bit small.

are the hobbit ones smaller? i havnt seen any in the flesh so to speak,i thought the heresy ones were small

Dînadan:

The Hobbit ones are true-scale 25/28mm while Warhammer is 28mm heroic scale so the Heresy ones fit better aesthetically (not sure how heroic scale they are, but I think proportionally they’re closer to heroic scale than true-scale).

tbh my view on what makes a greenskin has become more liberal over time, I reckon you could use the hobbit guys.

Saying that i looked at the price of those minis from the hobbit, i almost spit my dinner out.

Doombeard:

I have a comparison on my army blog with side by sides . I prefer the LOTR minis, which is what I use. The Hunter Orcs on Wargs make great wolfriders and Khans, and the Hunter orcs on foot come with double handed weapons, and bows and are perfect for a range of weapons choices. The Heresy ones are over expensive and metal and no wolfrider options. I also use the Moria goblins as Hobgoblin ‘Braves’ for larger scale games, I picked up like 400 of them cheap. They come with more command squad options (Gundabad Blackshields Command, Moria Goblin Command, Groblog, And the Marauder Warg makes a great Hobgoblin Khan on wolf option) Plastic and cheap it much more preferable to me, and they are great sculpts with more versatile weapons choices. They also come with casualties which you can use for unit fillers.

those pics are a fantastic help for scale,i think the hunters have a more dynamic pose than the heresy ones and are prob a little larger as i think hobgoblins are compared to goblins (in my head anyway) the fact that they are scrawnier orcs means they dont get mistaken for orcs…like a nice inbetween size…cheers guys decision made, ive also a question about the hell cannon on another post if u can help there too

Doombeard:

yeah I love their dynamic pose, when ranked up in a unit they look great. The heresy ones are nice but to me there’s no contest.

I built up a unit of 30 and about 18 wolfriders, and I still have a few boxes left to build up, but really not sure what type of bases to put them on now.

Yeah you're right, the Heresy ones kick the Hobbit ones out of the park.

:P

Hey you pineapple!

You should check out the Mongol-hobbos by Hodag Games. Not for everyone, but I think they look heaps better than GW-proportioned greenskins.

tjub:

Definitely the ones on the right.

gIL^:

My fiancee built the hodag website. Still waiting for updates

Loidrial:

Hobbit and LotR minis are smaller, go for the other, they look more classic fantasy and less “realistic fantasy” like the hobbits ones.

Plus agian, Hobbit is smaller.

has anyone got both models that they can take a pic of and post up for comparison?
