[Archive] HoC list in White Dwarf

Grimstonefire:

I agree with Metro.

GW would have no reason to publish a complete list, and it would require a lot of playtesting.  So the WD list is just copy and paste of things they’ve already playtested (or believe wouldn’t be too unbalanced).

So its not over yet for CD in HoC.

The rumoured list seems short on specials to me.

dancehat:

Call me a cynic but that “fluff blurb” probably is nothing more than a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel just before the tunnel collapses and kills us all!

On the other hand… it´s something! quick! give me batteries to the flashlight, we might reach the end of this tunnel after all

Cheers

Willmark:

Heh! Like your thinking DH its pretty much the same as mine in this matter.

AGPO:

I had a thought regarding this today.

The problem with encorperating stuff from the different books is game balance. GW are redoing the hordes of chaos book post daemons. This means if we were allowed to combine the two the daemon rules would need to fit and be balanced for both the old and the new mortals books.

If they left the daemons in HoC as they were then it would cause confusion, especially in daemon versus mortal games. E.g. one unit of bloodletters on one side work one way, another unit on the other side works differently.

Therefore, GW segregate the two lists until HoC 7th ed comes out, at which point they can decide the degree of flexibility between the lists. Alternatively it may just be a money making scheme to blend or segregate chaos factions with each new edition.

Grimstonefire
ATM it's

Lord of Chaos
Sorcerer Lord
Daemon Prince (?)

Exalted Champion
Aspiring Champion/Marauder Hero
Sorcerer

Warriors of Chaos/Chosen Warriors
Marauders
Marauder Horsemen
Warhounds
Cultists

Knights of Chaos/Chosen Knights
Chaos Chariots
Mutants (?)
Berserkers/Flayerkin things (?)

Chaos Spawn
Hellcannon
Chaos Giant

So yeah, a bit more variety needed, methinks.

Grimstonefire:

I think the rumoured way of bringing in daemonic/ beastmen units is via a magic item.

Interesting thing to consider is that we must be producing a hell of a lot of hellcannons for HoC to be common enough to be in most chaos armies.  Must be a Hellcannon production line somewhere…

I can almost see the Zharr Nagrund Times “4000 jobs secured at the Hellcannon Factory due to a corporate merge”

As said on warseer, that rumoured list lacks character to me. If they include all the ones marked (?) that would be a great start, hopefully they will do more for the actual list.

cornixt:

There are only seven steam tanks in the whole world, but every Empire army has one…

I don’t see any problem in having two sets of rules for daemons, no complaints about the Daemonic Legion playing differently to the HoC list. The WD list seems to be mostly speculation anyway, rather than anything vaguely concrete.

metro_gnome:

only the hellcannon is twice as rare as the stank… costing two slots…

furrie:

if the list will be mortal only then they wouldn’t put in the Daemon Prince. I hope they find something other for that.

Grimstonefire:

I think they should include the daemon prince in the list. Lucky Chaos Lords would be given the gift of immortality as a daemon prince, but they won’t necessarily leave their tribe. It may require him to be summoned from time to time, but he will still keep close ties to his old tribe.

To exclude them would imply that all lords who become daemons automatically leave their tribe to join the eternal battle in the realm of chaos, which goes against the traditional fluff.

AGPO:

I’m with Grim on that one. The rumoured list seems fairly sucky if it’s real. Cultists, berzerkers and flayerkin for all the daemons and beasts choices is an apalling trade, especially with knights and chariots moving to special. I’d stop gaming alltogether if they did that to my army
