At this point I have decided to wait on my hell cannon project, mainly because I can’t afford a Lamassu head right now, and because I have some other projects comming up. Yesterday I recived 3 BC, 6 Fireborn and one DSRL from FNG. He was reaaaally patience with me, fast shipment, and great models. There was a strange hole in one of the BC, but it’s not important. Very pleasent guy! I would like to encourage all that is in need of something to help him out.
I decided to paint a BC yesterday. Just one to see if the coulerscheme held up its own on a larger model. The skin was a choice between brown or red (as on the hell cannon). I decided to go with read, as it suited the HC, and will fit in with the overall paint scheme and the future k’daai destroyer and fireborn.
Edit: The pictures dosen’t really do justice to the leather/silver distinctions, but you might get the idea.
Here is a picture of how they looked when I recived them, and what I choosed to do with it:
Great job HoneyM, cool miniatures. The BC fit the style of the RA miniatures perfectly. I really wouldn’t want to be on the recieving end of that stare - he on to somebody. And that somebody will have a bad day - despite bad stats.
@Herby: When I recived the miniatures, there were lava there, but Im just gonna use them as dessert cracks, so the bases will fit the rest of the bases.
Painting theese and assembling them I am starting to feel that I maybe like to paint and collect more than actually playing with them. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll just continue straight into another project when I’m done. Maybe I’ll just sell them and start a new CD force, as I quite like to find alternative models to use.
Also I really like to see me painting skills devolpe. Theese turned out excectly the way I wanted them.
The project for next month will be 2 Iron deamons.
Well… After my last post I realized I had theese six fireborn lying around, and I only really needed som yellow to start paint them, so after my nieces birthday today, I picked something up at my local hobby store and went to work.
First I based them black, and started to paint white spots in the darkest parts, then yellow, the orange and then deep red. I quickly realized that the white spot diden’t matter, and with the next five, I just painted them yellow and so on.
At the end I realized I was out of wash, so I made some of my own. I hope it turned out all right. I also made some for the bodies.
It was dark when I finished so I had to use a lamp to light them up, witch is kind of hard on the coulers, so the single one resemble the lot the most. Man is it hard to paint when it’s dark outside. What do you guys do?
This is my first time painting fire. I’m quite satisfied with the results. Be happy to hear some feedback/tips though.
So… Theese are the last miniatures I have lying around - Promise! At least untill next week. It’s the 80 nightgoblins I use as hobgoblins. 2x30 with spear and shields 20xbows. Once again it’s night time pictures - sorry bout that. Tried to take some HDD pictures with the lamp close by. I had the day off, yesterday and decided to just get it over with.
Here is the thought: There are 80 of thoose buggers, so right from the beginning I though: Just keep it simple. They have a base chaos black. Then a grey drybrush of the their coats. Green hands and face. Brown shoes, belts and purses (and robes). I thought it would they needed some contrast so I decided to do the stilts of the spears and the raw bow material in a bone like coulering. Red eyes, as I dident want to do eyes on thoose small 80ish buggers. And then of course a wash. Here are some pictures. Also a picture of the fireborn in daylight:
Nice work on the BC’s and fireborn. They are something that sort of gets neglected in fits and spurts for me.
You’ve come up with similar to what I ended up with for your goblins (speaking of totally neglected). For their cloaks all I ended up doing was a black base and a wash with thinned codex grey and the bases are similar too but I tend to use scatter instead of flock as I think it looks too fluffy
I made the bases on the BC and FB yesterday too. I tried to make the grass on fire on the FB. It diden’t turn out too well, but I think it looks ok on a distance:
I like your bases, they are good. Nice mix of details annd the rocks add a lot of extra diversity. And the burning grass is a very nice original idea. and the colours works good on your k’daai.
In the future you should paint the bases a dark brown before adding gravel and grass. The black plastic shines through.
Suggestions:
* Give all the gravel a layer of Agrax Earthshade, it’ll do wonders I promise you. And it just gives the miniatures a more finished look. Natural stones and sticks doesn’t work either before being painted. Minimal work effort.
* The fire. Do a very light drybrush with a very dry black at the tip of the flames. My k’daai was done the same way as yours, but once I added the quick drybrush - the contrast and flames came to life. Do the same with the grass (even lighter drybrush). And drybrush the bases around the k’daii and burnt grass black, and give it nuln oil. Then the flaming grass effect will work. Small quick jobs, much better result.
Thanks for the advice BB. I actually normally paint the bases, just forgot it with the BC. All the rest have the dark brown beneath But Thanks for the suggesetions - epecially on the gravel. I willl defently do this!
As I am getting ready for my last big projects before I’m done (K’daay destroyer, Taur’ruk, 2 Iron deamons and prophet on foot and on bull), I decided to take you advice BB. I gave all of my bases the Atrax earth wash (almost went through an entire bottle), I gave the FB a light black dry brush (which in this case, really is a highlight). I then lined the enitre range up, to actually see what I’ve got. I can’t take credit for the two magma cannons, the DSRL, the wolf riders or the two deamon smiths, as thoose were painted well enough, when they came to me, for me to wanting to repaint them. Maybe I will when Im all done, but I doubt it. The Hell cannon isent done yet, so that’s proberably a project for tommorow.
Here is pictures of the entire army as it stands right now:
